+ a5 Y1 D5 K1 D% ^ F$ obring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
% Y7 |; _4 D5 R$ l* q. p& {1 D4 Aemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day9 z/ S6 q P( t) |3 L
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
" x, J! G: R' C; W# i. vstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
* u$ m# Z+ q {+ g5 GYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
. E4 b* ?0 g$ @9 B5 Jmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
- O- V* Z4 ~5 o& dconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the/ }5 x2 I% e9 i% N) F* A% t7 s/ n
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills, ]& F. n' A0 i
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
M. R, p6 ^/ `youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose; B/ I k! }( P( m% `1 d4 z$ L6 m
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
9 z% d6 u$ F& [. H% u! V) n0 t: P7 Rdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
8 a8 _2 E- p# q3 U. T2 h! L! P- f2 Q" Pexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and; q& v0 s' I" Q8 Q6 u
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a( z9 C( V& w4 o+ ^% e% w
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
. x# L1 Y1 Z! H+ i" S1 Q% QThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central J$ X# J$ E9 c; j7 u
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
' u! ~% q3 M3 R N9 NThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
, N% U9 x! A3 |3 M1 ?• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the2 ^: k# ^8 `( J
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
0 Y, A' t" X( Lwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
/ l- ?+ c W( U7 {; ~4 \• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as6 M2 O# A$ a! T8 J
being realistic to each youth participant7 W; m6 W5 L3 w1 W( W) q
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the, `) `$ o; O! Q \! u% h
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to5 U( `8 L5 j/ C1 ~# ^
each participant
$ `+ [* E6 R+ h! h: c5 Z5 }• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
& y# U. ?* x- k; [7 F) p q& Ocover letters and resumes etc. h! @! Y; _* A% t7 [9 x
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work: Z a8 y0 X$ u" \ w, v
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the% K" ?; T8 N- S' q# b4 E
placements* d% \+ d$ w9 u$ n1 A! z0 u
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating$ T5 d+ s. j) O
the process, and supporting the youth where needed* e! \ O; t5 ]- w6 T5 I" Z
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
' p- w! Z0 [& C' ~3 {8 Tis being fulfilled for each youth! }! F; Y4 ]" b% c1 u$ S
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are- \5 ]' G7 P9 P) }
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project, E3 N1 q+ d- S* c% l. C1 Q
• Other tasks as they arise within the position3 h+ T- [8 ~+ {- ?9 E
Experience Required: Employment Developer
% u9 R; w, I) y& B6 ]5 o. I8 E Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
- {1 z$ p f0 X6 m/ v A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.% y2 f5 k6 ^& t2 q0 s
