The VERTO Project

Q( H1 v1 x3 g, s/ nbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
0 l5 e) e6 o" ~# s6 z3 Y3 A" O" `employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day; s$ Z6 |/ s B5 A
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
9 ^+ c( A+ Z2 a+ ]2 ~( ^- ostands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.( P8 W4 ]: ~ T$ \$ A& W
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our Z; r4 c. A4 ]& \* g3 u9 u' N
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve; j) I# d+ X% @8 {
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
! n# _& c2 N" z5 C! v+ [VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills( F8 j' ?6 Y! ^! f: Y
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
* O( t- A; A) r- a5 Jyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
1 |) Y! z, }0 G/ ~participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
3 X2 h* W5 l, L! {5 M* Rdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
8 B4 o+ H' ]8 \: b+ h$ S; y' wexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and& g) b! Y k3 T4 e! s. D
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
& ]# I0 I! x1 z3 @: ~ F: k6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
1 S: i' t: `5 _8 {5 u! wThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central" ]7 ], H" J4 K' r0 [
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
+ j9 E/ a- N( w5 OThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
( {0 i6 j. A7 @extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)( y( E9 u; N5 ]0 N9 J6 M
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the3 I# C" R. Q) v% b, B9 w; g3 z' D
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are: f, {8 Z0 ^" W1 U" K1 A/ |2 a
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
: b! ~! d1 \, S( f! s+ s• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as8 w- l d& Q/ ~" i6 ~; d2 M
being realistic to each youth participant
3 Z4 A) O5 J1 F: ~' k• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
" K1 |# j- `1 g: ]' o' uyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
) t8 s4 t6 w9 a4 }each participant
% e- _) h$ U( G6 m k/ t• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
0 k( g. z7 R! d% F/ @cover letters and resumes etc.
* x3 D4 e' {1 Y• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work4 R& s4 e: W3 d$ F5 S" _ C
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the Y/ o5 }* Z7 J' b# f: O! v" I+ k
placements6 w0 Q# u# y# F, A- e# N* {
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating6 f. z+ C/ r, M" B! {$ ]5 y! O
the process, and supporting the youth where needed( x$ {6 R. I& a( R. D+ n
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach- }9 P+ B3 h' J; b2 j2 R
is being fulfilled for each youth
9 x: ]; i, _+ s+ h* I2 ^• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are# a }$ h, ~1 z- i) m0 ]
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project: z; T7 ]# Z/ @
• Other tasks as they arise within the position

' a- H. T, K5 X: d+ y Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted0 {7 t5 x1 m! m$ @# z, y
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required. o5 J) }7 ?- `( U# J6 Z: M
