bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
9 C l8 K9 _5 Wemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
2 j2 e; K( W6 r+ rprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that' o. ?! W: X! X9 u' s0 }$ s, W
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
5 s% E1 C2 ?. N& h" bYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
9 I1 x, R* A2 I" qmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve% V& `6 T* o9 B% {4 M% j
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the: F9 f- u6 u! I+ }( }
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills- S- F3 l2 M# m; F
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve) ]; K+ J# Z, k$ p' o; w5 g5 W
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
; O( r% g# |- u/ `' I( p: rparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
/ {0 ]6 s1 B( s) H$ ydevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
3 ?. ?9 T1 n# l% dexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and0 v) [! K0 F5 P: N6 [* M
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
4 K4 u, Z+ X: `! b! Y9 m/ e/ e% _$ O6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.* Z4 a9 \; }3 U1 n- U
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
9 Y- \- J& V; I' [YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.: f! y+ b' E; l/ ~. k9 c7 g
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

! G: e% g' b* b$ T i& d, z$ \Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)+ e: H8 w0 R) r7 h8 v+ [
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
/ V6 Y3 }8 C9 B+ o9 ]' }community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are8 L; l, r8 Q( A% A: R
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities9 {/ } U" ~- d0 {) V# c# J1 G
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
9 s! l/ r& t9 k1 ]( @being realistic to each youth participant; S$ G: C( G; g. T! u
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the, ^% X& O4 A8 `
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
; V' o4 F6 V& c6 H0 f& p, A( ceach participant
; p+ _. c' N" m+ P- {, K• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
7 J5 C$ W0 ~, i4 {- Ucover letters and resumes etc.
1 {5 W9 Z! F/ T9 B' r$ x# @• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work- Y( `" ?( }2 j$ c, ^
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the* ~" \8 H8 W9 w4 E( y A8 A M
placements6 b- t) M$ ?) {2 F. a& c2 P
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating, O9 Y1 ^& m6 n% f
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
0 ]: l$ ]. e: Q6 U/ t1 q• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
* M4 N1 d7 `6 O; K( Nis being fulfilled for each youth
1 [2 U- z4 q0 x( {• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are- A6 w; U* p5 P% R+ ?4 y
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project3 j$ J( i2 a9 G. k1 e. X5 f' Q) J
• Other tasks as they arise within the position% Q' v7 V0 y9 V% j7 I
Experience Required: Employment Developer
0 p; `9 A, F" U1 g0 z+ c Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
_1 `* e; w" `( @$ Z+ W A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
