JERUSALEM - Israel is sending disaster relief to China.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Arye Mekel says a plane is on the way to southern China carrying clothing, medical supplies, generators and tents for victims of the May 12 earthquake.

. K# j6 ^1 X, }Mekel estimated the shipment was worth US$1.5 million and said it was due to arrive in China later today.* A* f, m6 l5 x6 A8 x' w

According to Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, "This is the minimum that the State of Israel can do in order to express the friendship between Israel and the Chinese people.": w2 E& @4 W$ W$ P, ?, Z
