The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.
! n6 l1 S3 p; S3 a2 _" [  Z, ^
Responsibilities include:

# Y! _- i5 m* h% u6 W1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
. ]/ v4 L* P4 z: y$ B! n4 R3 X• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
( t, v% F0 Y* N• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
5 o2 Y5 r# L2 [* M• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.
# S) m( t6 d+ `+ m& Q
2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

* m" ^5 h5 L( W( M8 w' M3. Tracking System
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

3 P8 W! I6 W; D. A9 Y) z, [4 KCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

$ f  d9 v8 L& |7 lThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
