The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)9 q+ \" j: N! E) M: c5 W# b
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department( B$ V7 b2 X( X1 m5 T8 r
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
\ m' J( V! n! M/ y) S• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored& u4 ]6 v# Q6 |, {6 |
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
2 a& f, D; g1 y5 p8 i- x• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

# ~( |0 A+ X" F2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)2 @' ^3 p1 b5 Q' _" P
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

# b3 J+ \4 H2 U3. Tracking System
, E# `3 v, I0 ^ A: S0 g8 N• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s % M3 \- H: G7 u; h# w7 s7 y! u
3 E6 I/ C2 N- m; \" d) VCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required. * y. x, o& \, ] P, T& P- w
9 Y, F9 k! \+ j" U6 A8 oThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.7 ]- |( c- |% K' n+ H
