  Y4 q3 ~4 v" q% S) V1 Z' L! ^The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

9 [+ \# y/ {: b5 L# P! i3 KResponsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
# K2 x8 L+ M1 P) K• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
' |# a2 m5 M7 a' u• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
  ]0 f. X1 f0 D$ R! |• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

) T! j. t5 c  ^4 y# X) n2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
1 i' S, g( z4 _2 e• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3 }8 l' T. G0 I3 M. n' f• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

% s+ o3 H, A8 lCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
