" d2 p6 ^$ @* P5 C8 C) r! iThe Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
% C- W& _- f6 O2 o5 B• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
, _! ~: n$ e) `" @& t1 k) Q• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
# E6 Y& u; |) G; U. F  ?5 T9 m, o• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
+ x  ]% v; w) a) m9 `( W• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

, r: N6 ^; `1 u( w2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
6 r& L- A9 i/ S• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

; A0 {! B9 Z9 {! }$ D% S9 X% L6 rCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

2 i8 o- |0 {) F- G3 m9 O- AThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
