As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. ! q! c- \/ a! C n
4 e# i* t1 |+ C# e' Q5 d! wReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:1 Y' I: r M Y
• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment0 B0 A, h$ M. W" D9 V0 x1 x. X
• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
% U/ b8 U; t. s H9 B• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
* m, Z& n# I# s* G• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's7 i$ ]: J1 F1 _$ R: F) O
• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

5 l5 I+ C2 V7 W! v* \2 F7 E* x• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
3 p L7 W. U; m1 Q7 B0 H• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset( h4 b0 D8 p( ]2 d5 T/ }6 w
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience, v; d5 p) s& V) K* d+ q: ?& @
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems* G4 I& k8 _: V6 }3 B$ a( K
• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
. U: V# J7 Y4 `) k• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
& W( T. _, d; N) }8 c2 O; I• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST- ^$ i1 Q: d9 [" P
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
