As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. + G+ o, q$ z& ^1 c9 b) l/ Y
# ~; D" I Z& w& L2 T8 UReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
* C: l1 K" a/ j• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
9 K3 f& a. w- [: s/ @+ e" x• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
6 C8 i# b/ m" ~9 b9 N& I6 q• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
5 r4 Z. r% ~7 G) R/ d• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
, x& U2 x* Y; d• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 3 o# s0 [; L7 v4 M9 K8 c* C/ b
Job Requirements:
) [" y J; _6 N. f9 B2 o9 h• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline+ n0 r3 U; {# G# f8 J' V$ S. \
• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
F$ i/ u9 Y+ F3 q6 L: N8 J• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience7 K1 K" n4 v4 l1 k+ g* X- S
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
: r8 q1 c4 m1 x& N9 v2 U% ^, p• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets5 [; j# Z3 V2 `) _2 J7 P
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies0 O, p2 ^ ~ s
• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
) q, v2 t0 f- O• Excellent verbal and written communication skills) @# H& ]' X3 f( l! `! f
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
