& v+ u$ q1 r8 Y j" tAs part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. 9 m/ t& G q. j: x4 }
( M; ^' G6 @: Z8 D% P' F& [! ]& PReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
- L u) x, a& t/ z6 T5 R4 P9 J• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
% q: S. N {8 {. Z• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements) o: Y! s' ?5 ^/ v- p* e$ H
• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module7 Z5 N. w! r4 W$ R+ m2 i; C
• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
& P! }1 \" {5 v• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers
' e2 I& @* J; U1 }Job Requirements:
3 U- a, c* \6 N- V+ F• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
5 F" Y+ y# _. K- o( O- @/ z* r# B• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
* @# P$ L! h% ?* H; Q7 R• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience$ H* A4 E+ o- g
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems) @. ~: Z- w2 t: e8 O+ Q
• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets. e- z4 o( R3 Q1 d( W
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
4 X: z/ b$ b; q1 d• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST8 k! r9 u+ x8 o: H, q6 h
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
