As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. % s% Y: n2 P9 P' E7 A5 o' ~8 w! s

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
9 q! k1 Z- \! r7 {, P• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment. x, Z8 k8 `6 @! Y3 p4 X# |
• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
% f# b% _" e8 D- p- R0 }+ n9 f• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
1 ?. O: T) m) _1 O• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
+ A% K3 u; q% i. V• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

& D e. ] X* B( y3 K5 j• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline" J2 i% |3 j) F _! |0 _! Y9 ?
• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
/ H. l, X, J& a$ w- {: G• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience2 ?7 \, v# j/ X" o
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems2 Q$ V/ L \& I0 h9 y" N1 D
• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets/ t Z4 ?8 Y- r5 g/ `2 \! {3 e2 o
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
* e( T1 _8 u4 N• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST" ?. j r( l0 J3 W4 r
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills" E/ f7 `" M$ O J3 b" V$ T$ r
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
