+ s- \; I% S+ G5 x( J. j/ |/ oThe Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.

The project will focus on the following aspects of newcomers settlement services:

• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”# N' w: L3 | T5 Q2 z- H. e
• Centre-based delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”; m; l- ~2 H- O1 n
• Interpretation and translation services+ V5 b# X) l0 `* T1 \

7 y( X9 S' e' R" q6 Fguidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign7 U+ z+ v3 G* ~( }3 }7 ]" a
Workers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and
6 d% C: a9 |* V( _6 Q6 j rsupportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.# h3 l& g* w% _* Q1 h& f

orientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers./ ^" F! k. F. l3 [2 |; X. y0 F8 g! _2 C
Workshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and/ b% x8 b: m* p

required. The ability to work flexible hours is essential.

This position involves working as part of a team to provide services, create an
. p) X4 X4 u2 Z, i0 K" Lunderstanding of temporary foreign worker settlement issues, being innovative and
1 S6 z7 ?8 ^8 {! t; ^implementing solutions for TFW facing a variety of challenges. It also involves* k+ q4 n- {2 o
maintaining all information and records required by the program guidelines.

) F/ `: A- Y% u& d, W• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals% e+ J6 u; m, ~
• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN/ n- c% M1 S: a D
• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office
" v# j# t6 t0 Q• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required
0 A- b( |% ^+ f5 I0 z. z• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment
; E& D% }8 D- ]/ }0 m: c9 F• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services
3 q K& @5 ?5 ^2 H2 d* e, q; }• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency
) T- `9 g- E! x• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW

• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required5 `+ r& G. L8 c0 p2 h/ D5 ?
• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers; N% v" C7 e8 H) _; U1 g% |2 Q! Q* r
• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:7 J, s$ X4 j1 y0 A5 U7 G% {
• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context3 l" S& O* {2 d; P) S, u9 U
• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area
7 E, x2 D* r" B L" k& j• Excellent written and oral communication skills0 s6 X3 L. @8 H$ d6 G
• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
8 m7 Y% L4 `& ^• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making: s: u j+ p! a& o
• Proficiency in English is essential, as is fluency in other languages# t7 c2 E0 F9 u
• Spanish language proficiency is an asset
