Position: Community Organizer / Location: Edmonton / Terms: work hours are flexible & variable with some requirement to attend evening and occasionally, weekend meetings / Salary: competitive / Closing Date: August 22, 2008.

Position Abstract: as a community organizer you will be responsible for providing training to residents of an inner city community who are actively involved in creating strategies for a healthier neighbourhood. Working towards ensuring wide participation by residents/organizations in the local community you will assist in reinforcing inclusivity. k0 l" N/ y$ t; I" Q( J* X* ]
h& E% D7 Y- r9 B( P
PLUS: a capable advocate for alternative dispute resolution, you will liaise between the community and elected officials/municipal administration, assisting in the development of a strong working relationship between these groups.

& [2 h5 ?* ]5 F3 kEducation & Experience: the position calls for an individual with education in the humanities or related field + 2 years experience in the field of community organizing. Special interest in ecological literacy and sustainable communities will be an asset.

* t- M8 j' v7 Y4 q; o& dOther Skills: the successful candidate will have a strong background in building group capacity & seeing projects through to completion. There is a significant element of research and an opportunity for creativity in assisting residents to address community challenges. Working in a non profit environment will mean that experience in sourcing/writing grant proposals is an asset.
