Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
' _( b' ?* E; s    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group2 ?* G7 {* r* C3 X$ J
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators2 u9 s: L+ C5 M: [, O3 E! o
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
$ P, A% b& Y. j/ n, |    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
- s7 o  e9 h% }9 F, `: ~) F3 n    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
. g. L1 f" K3 X    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth9 v, b# T. U! z. G8 ?5 v
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program1 P& s9 b# H& \& B+ W! Q& D
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment" T6 V7 C0 z* k! ?
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
2 W7 F/ _/ P2 y$ p, E: U) }    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
: s: E! x" z7 h    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly3 G% o7 W" w; N
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities8 \& |0 C8 k8 U* S4 K8 f. _
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools+ \) T  \0 P& L5 o

Qualifications
8 V5 a! b2 }9 ?3 A7 P. {% s; T3 ^( b/ z
    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
' G" X# v- h, R, f: H    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth2 |/ w- N! I5 x" j* g! Y$ x& @9 b
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies; ~* Q) R0 e  Q7 G! L3 s+ @
    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
/ k  A% K4 a; k    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
8 a. u, U" _. F$ _9 ]    * Fundraising skills an asset! d2 H+ z/ P  x% V3 F0 u- Q9 L
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
( g3 r; V- h9 T0 e4 K' t    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
, I+ b- U* Q( e* P0 B: ~    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
' m" q* O. U6 b$ l    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills$ T: @8 x4 D: P+ `
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset: h" N' x6 G8 Z
