Duties

$ L% }" R; G6 \+ h& s( Q2 I4 ]; ^/ S    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
- o  Y5 v5 u& k4 ~# X( Q, I7 L    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
* T' Z8 w) g1 ?) I' |8 M2 o" W    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
3 V# Q; K, t  J$ a  M. g! L    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses

    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment

7 G1 J* q5 @% a- h, E3 o    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
) ^+ X1 w, o" D4 @+ |    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications

, p* \# R) A( |1 E/ p. Y3 Q2 J    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
+ V5 d2 ~; L4 ]* z    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
3 ~2 D6 C8 C+ _4 E( V, X1 ]    * Fundraising skills an asset
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
1 j: F- X8 ^/ F3 H& W& f    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
  P; M3 K8 @9 E5 a; q    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
3 s" B% _2 z8 Q1 C    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
