Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
- o9 O+ B( W5 \: K% ?    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group% \) l* y) V1 K# b
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators/ e4 Q) v4 C9 ?, y
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations  g$ u. D8 X8 f5 R2 m9 U# l+ w
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director$ _- f- A0 g; e6 `" I
    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
+ ]" t, j8 h8 B6 o2 s* V    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
9 L8 V4 G9 y3 O3 B& F9 h    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
9 d/ n* X0 [2 g/ w2 m% o    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
* {0 W) m- d- x7 Q2 k" Z    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
8 y, X$ o" g# b( [6 b    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs6 A; d1 n# W# o; B; s
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
. m7 @- j  w, K% i3 x    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities, F' c' S! i& A6 x2 d" ?
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools6 @& A2 y; ]- r6 X+ x, ], e# M

Qualifications5 i! M& S; e% @
+ }! ?+ |8 {* l  C  I! Z
    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
6 _- |% Q4 S. y9 g9 j9 @' x' z    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth  ?! K# e# Q- \
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies$ h6 O$ h( X( o9 E( q3 h8 ?/ \9 d
    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
/ [7 F* D* D1 V    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
& z8 Z4 m8 \4 e    * Fundraising skills an asset
; m" O& `7 v$ P' v! t4 F    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills8 j6 d8 N2 u4 W; G  {) m
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills

    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills, G7 Q4 f2 A  T2 q
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset+ j0 E9 z( x- y: |0 _" e$ M
