Description: The Neighbourhood & Community Development Branch is seeking a Social Worker for the Assessment & Short-term Counseling Team (A.S.T.C.). The A.S.T.C. Team is made up of 14 Social Workers & is centrally located at Circle SQ. The team responds to a variety of issues including relationships, worries over children/teens, domestic violence, financial stresses & housing concerns. 7 G" U5 ~# R9 k+ X
3 z) i' [& V; z6 q2 nKey Tasks - The successful candidate will report to the Director of Targeted Community Services and will: respond to citizen calls at a centralized phone in service; provide in person assessment/counseling to help clients identify strengths, family supports, and available community resources; take a holistic, creative approach to arriving at solutions.

. }$ T4 [7 f1 J4 |6 }In addition: collaborate with team members to develop/implement models of best practice in Social Work; facilitate drop-in/registered attendance groups for women and/or men who have experienced domestic violence to help them toward developing healthy relationships, personal dev., and making positive life changes; participate in the City's disaster social services response team; other related duties.

+ a: k2 N e2 ^% c( dJob Requirements: a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. A Master's Degree in Social Work is preferred; a minimum of (3) years professional experience in the provision of social services involving individual/group programs, family counseling & organizational and/or community work.

4 @" ?- q- j7 I$ _+ o% K; z4 sIn addition: RSW designation; demonstrated skills/creativity in the above functions, including strong skills in teamwork, assessment & short term counseling, community/organizational networking, group work/project initiation; sound knowledge of family violence; develop & sustain positive professional relationships with clients, colleagues, management/community agencies; maintain accurate records and professional case notes.

PLUS: excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills; sound knowledge/experience in assessment, the use of short-term intervention approaches & preventative services; ability to listen non-judgmentally and comprehend with empathy/understanding; ability to think creatively and be flexible; experience in providing services to men affected by family violence is an asset. |
