3 K( k( r6 T2 R# I9 Y6 }$ HThere are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009.

    * Read Common Questions about the elimination of premiums
) o- S1 J& T1 c- ]( t  X
3 x% l8 s: k  v& D) a+ P) V7 ~Payment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:

   1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.
   2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.
- c, a  K& C- \" x: f5 H9 C   3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.
( w9 _3 `- p1 ]/ C+ `# t   4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.
