Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
! q e& V# M" ~; u2 z/ MMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
; D- J1 X' R6 w |0 J; z% {: U(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about2 |+ o5 s2 m: c5 `( ]' W# C0 Q; l
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste. W# J) [$ H: Z: E/ a- @
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
, O! V% h- s c) x" @! Pvermin-composting and residential recycling.% ^' ]! b7 [- l# @) j' }' ~
$ E* }9 ~+ ~2 U8 n/ W) W
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips" E+ B4 G+ G+ {+ a
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates, I7 D, p; G6 P9 B
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:/ q0 Z' Q( p" f9 ? o
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
) I8 O# o9 C3 i; I- O$ }6 Fresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
0 E: }+ `0 y- Z* Yimportance of composting and recycling.

" r- ^' Y6 \; c" jExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the4 r* _5 N+ K* \9 M B4 c. d
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
$ W3 V! B3 K( d$ Lpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and; E, k- L* S* c+ K. h5 X
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at; s \ V# L0 F) a8 A- R( m: `
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
& J7 @: U2 m, d/ y8 e& p* upresentations.
% ~; T) W# s, r; x# W" u4 }3 o' O5 G' x0 I/ l$ s
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
" q- p! B) P" Y" xvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
8 }6 f. w. R7 P: q" a& omost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
6 ?* x; @" Q2 w9 O6 g9 D+ F* fknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
