Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!: J4 C2 Z% Z3 y5 g/ o
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch, |/ V7 D% I ^8 E0 r% d1 K$ _/ A

& M( L2 L6 U5 g# P: i. KDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
' A+ C9 T+ w7 Y+ h5 n* XMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
5 ~9 f0 J4 O# J% O- i0 F# s(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
( M; Z& r) K/ p& m7 C: ?( w! Menvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
* s& l( d, c) ?9 C8 S5 O) T O6 Omanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;# h0 R6 p* J7 N' o% @6 I) s
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
+ G( |5 L( b9 a3 U( [: ?
. A3 Y3 r: J- v; i& BThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
- v8 ~1 b* n# Pto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates, q1 O6 C1 [' Y; a$ I6 z# Q
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
0 G" `$ P7 Y4 ^) Y7 {% M1 b4 Lreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
3 e/ z; g$ M* V+ sresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the( g. t, A; o! O# R: Z* W
importance of composting and recycling., `! V0 z; `9 _( D8 y
2 e* K# K, w' W% g" O
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the5 f$ m8 [4 u" P4 J9 k1 I" L
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
1 X6 K! ~2 b, n6 y+ E: Dpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and4 ]* _! g8 c% p) r
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
: |$ I `, |# l A& ]$ D* j& Q3 l5 fvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school0 y' C1 X8 s' N, H) A
presentations.

4 [4 n2 R2 v0 o3 I$ P* V( fThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and7 p; A9 x6 o) t1 }& i
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the8 m8 r: z6 D+ e7 r9 m
