Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!: ~$ H' e( k! |' d$ m/ {; I

$ J* a6 ^( R3 f8 LDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the- g8 [. [8 v- B
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule& s. f0 t! y% V# W, H7 d" K
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
! S/ H/ O6 |: i( Q; `environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste, ?. n6 B; X& K6 S) Z
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;; o. q& a$ `# K% ]% v1 D# {
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
8 A( [1 Z/ n" w: m. \. ^: r- u- i. G. J3 \3 Q
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
7 J7 P8 Y# B5 _" r# E v& A! P9 M! ato various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
/ ]# x% J* R j5 S4 b) pcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's: y& X: w. q$ g$ y) s, k4 I
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
: i4 K0 B0 J: g- { h5 H5 F* Cresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the ~! \& ~- l# D1 p9 Z
importance of composting and recycling.
. }6 u, ~0 k3 ~$ \& Q. n, `3 p% }+ v1 q$ ^* g0 y
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the/ Z" A8 u5 H1 Q9 u$ F2 B) K0 |
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;* W) @3 d9 w* W0 b% C& \
public education display booths; assisting with programs and+ {6 S3 [+ h; ]; d |% c
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
: T3 f+ l2 s Y+ i" ?1 nvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
6 z" e, a4 S+ W+ x) R8 [$ Q3 Upresentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and& G/ P) x, U# z2 n4 }
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the4 ~/ U$ V; K0 I( U* C8 V) M
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your& N( Z4 N: L2 V4 l
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
