Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

+ e1 L. y. @" Z2 h7 MDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the, t+ y1 K& y8 v. ^+ B) q& Q
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
4 x: ]/ S/ t x" E8 N4 D6 Y7 v(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
6 f# m% U9 d# R, kenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste2 P% o, [" p- D' @( c& _
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
6 f( G0 Y6 O# }* U. }+ @vermin-composting and residential recycling.( h, \ a q) z. `$ N1 I
+ w U r2 Y! H0 lThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
! _: w1 f! A! O' \to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates4 y$ }, y% x3 U/ r4 h
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:5 p. e# k5 ~/ ?$ e) [/ k
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important w# k( d* N% t3 L2 ?. d8 e/ k
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
1 x% N; q- I4 a U9 Z u% F6 jimportance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the4 V& r# v y) s8 ?. B
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;! T- @8 j6 i8 W) Y
public education display booths; assisting with programs and3 D7 V0 ~4 F" T8 J j/ J
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at" I n; m+ j; L: y7 z* A9 i0 t
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
}/ ~8 }, J6 G0 G" B% i: C' @presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
, _1 t7 k6 u/ |volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
. ]! `' i1 ]% l( } h4 l% smost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
