Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the$ _! g! H5 `2 h
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule& R& `! C) R/ U3 E/ ?+ G4 n! N A
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about, t; q3 H) E7 j: B
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
3 V1 @4 ]) e1 \+ S4 ^- Vmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
( r: n1 L/ `4 \+ l" H, N8 K9 Wvermin-composting and residential recycling., s) a8 `$ c! o( j0 \- h
" O' D1 l9 l3 {
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips7 `# d# | I1 k$ {5 R6 U- l3 S( d
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
4 `2 h+ Q8 _5 n- l" Rcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
9 A- [8 A1 D Qreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
5 Q4 S) |* a3 J; |resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the' }5 u' `* ^) E7 T5 Q
importance of composting and recycling.

5 ]! O* r* D! n1 [Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the& K$ ]# Y" X3 O( W: \( B
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;+ N1 [$ W0 H+ B8 v+ ^1 n
public education display booths; assisting with programs and; C7 A7 Z+ L6 X, ~- w+ o
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
! i1 a r2 N8 X2 e; [various demonstration gardens and general public and school& H, b r/ g2 K- s$ K& p
presentations.

6 z; X8 u: t3 F, I: FThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and/ D/ I/ H# n A% Y1 h
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
, w+ C8 V2 x) i$ e6 V( umost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
, p3 x/ R) g# o& }* \$ fknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master

-Saturdays all day - for three consecutive weeks.
