Duties

, z- p$ q5 q3 m; Y, _6 u- v1 K * Conducts isotopic analysis of geological samples using Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry, including performing isotopic analysis of standard samples and control solutions to verify machine performance specifications. n7 e7 g u9 H! o8 c
* Loads purified samples to filaments for analysis* F5 P& c k' Z+ V& M
* Performs data entry and ensures quality control and quality assurance
, X9 }8 c6 g8 f: V* H9 ~& Z * Coordinates instrument analysis schedules for Research Associates, Post Doctoral Fellows and Graduate Students
7 s( g2 K$ h# y" ?- @9 J * Provides general technical support and routine husbandry for the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory, including preparing filaments (welding and out gassing) for analysis for use by self and others; cleaning instrument components and conducting minor repairs/replacement of components; checking glassware and pipettes; orders consumables and supplies

) K; h5 H! u1 f& s * Assists in the upkeep of safety procedures and information; completes routine checks on safety equipment

Qualifications

* Technical Diploma required; a BSc is preferred
