this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA & b. m1 W3 X* G. V# L
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 4 N6 c& {. E0 G( ~; L9 J; X
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 9 J" F. u5 H. U# J1 ?$ P
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ! {- s# C) g4 e5 S
execution of the YWCA Strategy
; ?& @9 R; L. `0 R2 O& r; W" q* f
5 M7 q; b, X( D( U; \. K/ N3 F2 o% WSpecific responsibilities include:  & l  h/ F/ u% P/ H* [' r

% m0 [0 H8 f  F3 a•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
# W7 z  x, x* ^the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by - N  x+ K! t; P8 r8 k
the Board of Directors;  , I) I2 l1 s6 I7 @9 l: S  H0 Z
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 4 u$ p1 m) j2 y: m) e: Q
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
- L1 O( o& S2 x3 h* q+ M+ D. Genable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 7 J1 z1 s7 f6 j% e/ Q
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ' e+ Q: q$ H3 I, T; Y; p, J
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
7 |& f& @" v! Xthe board;  
8 b5 n- v4 L6 n) X•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ! Q' D4 G+ [+ e: u
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
$ ]( L  a, M4 U( x- Bthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 6 ~2 a- u7 G) f9 l
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
" q$ g/ F3 z8 S! n7 w0 bchanging needs of the organization and community; 4 B- R& Y4 Q2 \: k  u" W
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue % z+ a: B( ~- O' e! S
commitments; 6 L) p: ^) {# U5 N. t
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
; N' a! N7 t9 c, D•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
6 S+ _6 v0 E2 ~7 L7 E. xselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  * d# W. ~, p0 `5 P
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; # Z5 [2 u$ r- o, t0 v, i; Q
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
) D" m3 I# R7 N/ i" J, Heffectively and positively represent the association; 8 O  x. }" m& R. o
9 H7 p% f9 A5 O% D; x
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring " s+ U% v, r1 I0 c
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  8 p" ^5 O3 q8 X  G3 t+ Q, I
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal & }- e, C" o0 n! ?; |/ i/ _* u5 R
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
5 @; p6 k- s5 Y. P( I, ?5 ~the forthcoming year;  : Z+ @( F. X. f! Z7 S
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 4 `3 C; V, q* n- Y7 V
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of . y: C8 d0 p" D1 u1 `  }& E
YWCA Canada; and
- b8 ^" B! j2 E7 k, T•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
- K9 B0 h! z. X0 rForces.

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;

. U7 t- F3 \7 p$ E# r" hand achievable with realistic timeframes;

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and / Z- d3 b3 u7 ^* K
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification % R: A1 y2 E! Y
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
& ~4 n9 @# V# j0 @; U
  V2 D( ?9 ~7 L/ g- z0 N0 nRequired Experience
) G6 N) {6 {4 u5 y% I•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; / q4 j1 @0 \$ f+ H' M
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
9 d1 z, u) t7 N2 q/ o) zabilities;
3 ?: N4 c6 H8 U' d•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
' J) {& ~/ `" V0 l5 ^) ?- E! NNetworking and Fundraising; ' t, H$ X3 z% L( [3 c
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 3 e. r1 }* i: L
and financial statements; and 2 r4 K3 O5 P& g/ P) g0 {, q$ Y4 @1 I
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
