this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA , A) q7 P% L) Z: u. ^' d
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ' t+ ?5 G# V  J8 ?
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities
. X# r+ u' G) J" i# V; V  p / L* K8 M3 P) o; z3 a& }
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
) r0 v  C/ n7 cexecution of the YWCA Strategy
0 U+ ^" N3 L* s* ` ) M% B3 y* `, v7 e: H
Specific responsibilities include:  $ A" W) `/ t% u) {( n$ ?5 n& ^
) X7 |; w2 J) F7 J
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 7 l9 S# e8 q1 l4 R6 J
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ( h; r1 m4 m. q1 U$ Z% o
the Board of Directors;  
- ~: b: f- Q" w9 ?0 ^$ Y! T" ?•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 2 B# y5 ^! M; Z! E; \# v# b
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
) ]/ j7 d, b4 i: ~9 k8 Aenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; * u- U( i8 L( a! U
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
! a+ ^& @' ^$ a$ ]objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by , o* ]6 ]% K! C" M7 g
the board;  ' g% h. `$ u; i, m
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
& t6 ~1 Q& j+ ?•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
3 _7 j! b4 k7 d, A9 f% w4 ^+ }the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ( G. l) W( N0 ~5 f7 w
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ; Y# w& E8 a; k: C7 n; H
changing needs of the organization and community; ' ?- q" ]; m9 b/ ]. S2 k
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue : s* a2 ~% t. |4 B3 m0 t! r. F
commitments; 1 N& S3 Q) L& |4 J/ P- L; |
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  # p" D0 C6 f- c% X
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
  {! C' E3 q- c  s! _selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  : a+ m, g8 S3 F" I. I% L! x
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
. D7 `/ v/ }1 h•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ) e/ @" W, C/ z6 m; ]" t9 n8 y" `
effectively and positively represent the association; 3 b  E: J8 U' Q

4 ~( }! m% H: I4 p& s' S, S•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
6 g7 W2 Q8 v8 D; `& h# Pthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  , m# O4 _' z: M& U4 g6 e3 O2 @
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ) r. y! [8 {0 N- K
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
& j2 T8 G: b9 Y  d1 W. Bthe forthcoming year;  
) t4 ^) l" r" {) h4 F, O  q1 H- O: q1 o•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
+ t& ~/ |$ d  |9 t6 P# q" S% W* apractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of - X# m7 m; B* ^4 y0 o; Y
YWCA Canada; and 3 l/ b3 b8 V4 b
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task . L& F  ^: z) C- h  ?

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;   y3 O5 |+ }" V+ [5 f
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ; n7 k" F$ W  P% c4 _! S' U9 A
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
' E3 _; v% ]1 J•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
$ b: E- d9 M5 {; v- Zsimultaneously;
) m  w) d3 `* G6 `•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 7 w0 E  I! x% _1 ?$ X' e
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

Required Professional Designation / Certification
8 B/ F5 [: Q% e: j•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
& q; f9 u- c9 o% k/ l2 D) s
8 B$ G, {' ~2 r8 f* K: aRequired Experience 9 ]' M9 G  x1 {. C5 \
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
# y6 v5 y2 O( l•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 8 G1 S. k, A/ ?! Q( }/ q6 c' U
abilities; & ^" X7 ]) ]3 T/ r6 K7 \$ C; f
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
; c* ^) i8 W5 C3 Q8 fNetworking and Fundraising;
. c5 L. |8 [2 q+ D" Q8 q5 Z% g* C7 K•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
3 i$ k- I+ |, R% T5 I6 B1 fand financial statements; and
& O! r- M) i+ v5 I0 m2 y: v•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ' J! _0 I1 P5 q
centered perspective. ) i0 e* q- H/ s2 c
