EMCN provides a wide  range of settlement, employment,  language  learning and supportive
7 Q* n  A" e3 Gand  therapeutic  counseling  services  to  help  immigrants  and  refugees  settle,  integrate  and
) {  K  d5 g- T# I8 k0 W* K; ]adjust  to  life  in Canada. We work with  individuals,  families and communities  to promote  full
6 }( D; M* a% t' h, nparticipation  in  society,  and  to  create  opportunities  for  the  experiences  and  skills  of
' Y) @8 u. x+ `2 D& T' Y$ knewcomers to strengthen and enrich their life in Canada.

, |% b3 F# T# Z2 }  Primary  purpose:      The  Social Worker works  in  partnership  with  settlement  workers  or ; O# I' K4 ]# k0 G' ^1 Z
community  cultural  brokers  from  New  Canadian  Health  Network  partner  organizations  to 8 k$ B; h7 w, a. v
provide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs.  
  x/ p9 J/ E: p2 J, j) [  2 ~% R8 a* g$ w& C+ K+ K, \
  Nature of Work: The Social Worker will  report  to  the manager of mental health services.  
8 }7 y9 ^! w* X! {) l# |The position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff, # ~4 J) U  k: ^! q
newcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social
9 W3 A9 t" L( O+ H$ H2 NWorker will  assist  in  case  planning,  conferencing  and  providing  support  and  advocacy  as
' W- x" c# P- E  R% Q( m7 Xneeded.    As  required,  the  Social Worker  will  assist  in  accessing  community  supports  for
/ W8 y3 p( F. w2 inewcomers  and  their  families.  The  Social  Worker  provides  holistic  and  flexible  initial 0 @* I# y' K' E! e. q% `1 ]; p
assessment  of  life  circumstances,  needs,  goals  and  aspirations  and  adheres  to  the  client-
6 {3 G/ n- ~7 K+ {" T0 {3 n' mcentered delivery model.

5 v% D. ?6 F' i! W. h5 ]9 T Key Accountability
* @3 i: H8 @+ i0 b  j+ _  ]  Understands and adheres to professional ethics related to social work.
. H5 v# {4 i) A" A: I5 g  Accesses comprehensive, up-to-date information about services and resources available 4 w  q- j/ g" Z+ S# [- r7 N4 _' ~
within the city of Edmonton and New Canadian Health Network partners.
7 J* b* L+ f2 u  Providing holistic information or advocacy services for immigrants and refugees served. 2 Z3 C' M% B, W2 s3 P) U3 l+ V
  Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families. , Q* y" e5 K0 |+ @- x
  Provide intake, needs assessment, referral, case plans and action plans to support
: d. `& c+ k% c% Y  Dnewcomers in settling and fully participating in community.
4 {/ H0 z3 m1 N# }4 w/ \  Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental
; A3 N$ g3 k. D  j( i3 }; G4 ^% `case plan support for clients who have complex needs.
7 g# B  _4 \5 }6 g  q- ?2 z( J% A  Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers. $ x: g$ |, K3 a1 G+ z9 A% ~
  Treat all clients with dignity and patience in order to listen deeply and give thoughtful  
5 C; k- Y: ~! }service.  & l# d4 q: P6 F. H3 {: P0 m& ?% q
3 x8 z. F; F% r$ @, v% Z) A( x) c
Qualification % M+ f8 q2 {$ j- \9 ^. \
! o3 K+ J6 d3 E9 e
  Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and + E- H  m& W" E5 e, b& l5 v
experience in Social Work or related human service fields. & e0 k7 c+ E$ s2 [% y
  Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family # C6 l% }2 P) C0 v4 U6 @" a
support needs / C0 k) ]3 R3 B
  Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications 7 ^, y0 p( h+ W4 Q; s  Z+ W! q
  Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages
+ m* n0 k$ w1 S* @7 N" Z1 o  Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate
1 t5 A% a% ^+ K; i/ o8 b+ m' V* p8 Jinsurance coverage for work ( E; a* L7 I/ L9 G

2 T/ C, p9 R  w2 M! R5 w" _Experience:  Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field
+ B7 n( G  J8 w8 s. c
% l9 j1 K' O5 O0 c* L5 zSpecial Requirements
. G* t5 @. ]3 Y" j$ ?! m  Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and strong commitment to providing quality services to

) G' w1 `- R/ w$ L' L- i) d  Flexibility in terms of scheduling, including evenings and weekends at various locations
/ @4 Z, R0 C) e, o; a6 i* L$ F  Previous experience in working collaboratively with staff from partner organizations
