Position: Early Childhood Development Resource Worker / Location: Edmonton / Salary: commensurate with education & experience / Closing Date: July 2, 10 / Abstract: Bissell Centre is a nonprofit community resource centre providing support to people living in poverty within the a of neighbour helping neighbour.

! P6 W- [) X+ F$ MThe Position: the Early Childhood Development Resource Worker is responsible for developing and implementation of program supports and resources for children with special needs. Some duties and responsibilities include: personal commitment to Bissell Centre Mission, Vision, Priorities and Values; provide training to staff regarding Special Needs and Early Childhood Intervention strategies; develop a Resource Library accessible to parents/staff; assist staff in implementing early intervention strategies (including programs and changes to the childcare environment) to permit full participation of children with special needs in childcare activities; establish developmentally appropriate activities to enhance skills in the following areas: cognitive, fine and gross motor, behavioral, social and emotional; assist parents with their parenting concerns and with accessing appropriate resources for their children and for themselves.! In addition: provide workshops to parents/guardians as needed; plan/facilitate a parenting support group; network with other agencies that provide Early Intervention programs, including schools; advocate as necessary on behalf of parents/children; identify appropriate referrals; transport and/or accompany family to appointments when necessary; liaise with Child & Family Resources as well as other Centre programs; when requested, supervise & provide training to summer or practicum student(s); knowledge of Day Care licensing requirements, child development, children’s early intervention strategies, inclusive strategies, Learning Through Play philosophy, early childhood environments/early childhood resources & programs.

Education/Experience: B. Ed. or Rehabilitation Practitioner or equivalent education; experience working with and developing education plans for children who have behavioral and developmental challenges; experience in providing training; experience working with families in extended support and advocacy roles; familiarity and experience with issues of poverty and the urban core.

' p: `" g* ?& W2 G3 @' XSkills & Abilities: Behave ethically, build relationships, communicate effectively, focus on client needs, foster teamwork, make decisions, have organizational skills, be able to plan/solve problems, maintains accurate written caseload notes, computer records (dBase) and program information.
