& ]$ V L- a$ b! \3 l. dthat we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet

Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are
" Y! l6 q* i" Man increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving
$ ]& g3 K$ G6 \! R- W3 C' Winnovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops
/ F8 t+ A ~( X7 Z2 O6 dCanada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
( p& y$ f" v! ]3 W' ncarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
" d$ {2 R/ K8 T# F( ?" Kguided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and/ g1 z% q z' m4 v, N' p
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing* `$ s' u: I/ @* K, Y
market forces to prevail.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has
- D" e/ N9 l% D hchosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large
) Z( r) R6 y: W" K2 Lnumber of Canadians. Details of the CRTC consultation are available at

' f) S3 L8 j" Nline with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages
" M4 Q5 c6 N. j Dcompetition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that* {9 W# O4 f$ r/ z
any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
