  W" M' E4 X; P( D: ^Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are
an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving
# Q2 h$ x7 V7 q* i- zinnovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops
1 C0 q' w+ j+ p4 w/ W; C  XCanada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
carefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture.  We will be
guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
! k  G' \( F( f( D( a8 t# Y7 Xmarket forces to prevail.
* E: i2 Q  O% s' p8 H8 J) ?3 C
' U% A( ?+ A; ~: e/ j% X2 nThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has
! D3 G* a9 u  X% |. Uchosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large
number of Canadians.  Details of the CRTC consultation are available at

; c& ^# N8 m2 f. [* i2 KWhen the CRTC reaches a final decision following its consultations, the

  O) x; ?: _3 \8 D5 Wcompetition among internet service providers.  I will be recommending that
