that we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet

Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are& D- ]% E) a! {; ]: z, p
an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving
" y6 h: K; P& Q; E% Y2 e* Vinnovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops3 f* m" ?" k/ s$ Q3 j+ `
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
/ f# ^) Y W+ U5 Pcarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be
! z& J, E* Y9 Y& h7 y4 U) z/ tguided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and7 F0 [$ b5 G: P9 T
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
4 o" k! R8 }! |market forces to prevail.

5 A" f& S. d4 [! X+ gThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has
8 [, u5 a( I& J1 F) _) ~chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large7 u' ?* `* s K
number of Canadians. Details of the CRTC consultation are available at

government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in
" T/ {* y4 \) A [line with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages
; d# I6 S2 j+ Lcompetition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that
