T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
8 O# B- q& z9 h# y) EAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 0 }8 F3 l* \# l* A9 m6 J* f
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on $ c, l0 U1 V& n3 B% H" q
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
8 u; K# ]' T) A; D+ S9 Rand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

7 m8 e: Q& R8 A" tWhat will take place in the sessions?
7 {0 [5 O' |2 p% u# U: P9 jEach session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.
! Y9 u2 ~* A9 A! \' ?$ X; M' [) t) L: u8 Y& N
These activities will enable youth to:
) D5 R. j2 `5 R' Q Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
9 g1 k# Y, X+ b: x$ \- c. d$ k  k Learn how to access community services and programs. S  u( `2 b8 c- a
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills) g, U7 ?9 C( r; A  d8 O  B
 Identify personal leadership strengths …4 m. l9 d! Z2 J/ e
# Y9 S8 a& o- r# F3 d0 D  [2 Q, [
' P2 ], }. H1 @7 g& p
Program Schedule:
& G& l/ p- @6 X" k9 K$ TRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.4 F! c+ |- p, N
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
  Z" F3 R+ E' h7 I                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
8 |6 a) `0 G9 m# [9 Y/ r: f1 N; A  j5 N* _
Who can participate?
; `0 ?" e: f4 u9 @6 m* p8 B: GAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
: A# k* X5 H( t* {8 C' L
! T7 b, f; N5 J  _) |. k/ ^What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
6 d9 J1 @- _# G8 R& v& Y" H9 o! \It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

+ s+ E/ `! B/ ]9 |- T5 _, \2 uVolunteer’s Duties:/ r; F  }7 w- n: w9 n1 b0 v' l
$ m* C3 D# w2 k& L1 x
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies & h+ V3 i* k+ ^, d1 w9 ?8 }
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
* L# O: Y. G* E0 C9 K# Y Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities2 m  }+ C" B4 J% c+ p7 O$ L
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions( \6 h) U+ V( n* f
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic6 Q% b) Q0 a3 ]- n6 n/ o
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips

 Be a role model

Volunteer Commitment:
* j' m$ z, S# p  ~2 ~6 E6 H
- v3 }( e, m* G, \5 p On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
# n; C& d8 V+ ?& ?7 @; M5 N& @ One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
  l5 C4 y; ?* U+ d: O# r: @  t! U- f9 a" Y* k1 |2 A( f

; Z+ m# ]' N2 C Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
6 s) a, Q0 \( A, e5 r Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program1 |$ q# |, ?& M4 J4 q
 A team player& d+ Z8 X0 t. T/ f# N
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision  g# j$ X1 L  {; d% K1 f, O) n9 U
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
! l; Z1 Z6 U4 h+ O* } Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
