7 O8 C4 N1 s. ~- G3 ~! K# ?, i+ u! L9 n* {3 w
1. I couldn't care less.
; a5 q! J; c6 t |9 h: x7 y3 g( h/ d, S" Z# ^
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如: % f9 |- z# k' ?4 p6 o, `% d
7 r; J$ Q- [ b9 ?" _
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
8 U- ?* u5 G9 D/ y* J6 U5 x" P% a" V2 d; i
. ]5 B; S: V( F- d$ O* [
. U: V8 j, h" G% a) C3 t How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
$ }- w& g, I+ Z$ `, P0 K; Z! P8 n8 A0 ^; \" |
I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) . A3 o9 [1 Y& f% P
2 V; S0 D2 h7 S' w! O7 u& n: @2 s
, I; `/ m/ x2 a) Y: O' k I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) % j. L" p3 R+ ^- O, G% b# c) N
) m& K& i, |& q: d( K# a: |
Yes, you do(care).
& J4 U$ n& u7 m& q8 j" f0 l B% l( r4 ^
至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理: : a+ m" X1 G5 Q/ w* W# |$ V2 @& e
1 m- R$ k2 w& P2 {, p+ ^$ `* | I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
0 l% }: E# n- T \ l5 ], O+ Q) Z
; @, G2 q' }; p I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
$ v0 h7 C! u) p L4 M" S. ^" e+ S2 l. N- A D2 F, G, s
I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
9 T+ P: d6 g) W7 \' t. h
4 P* A* J% f" s% _0 ` 但是老外为了自尊,不愿强调自己的错误,所以很少人说: ( U( H5 A# z' q8 d7 g! c8 Y {
7 }& ?( a8 M F- l" U- O* l B6 g
I couldn't be more wrong. 2 s) V, S" Q5 ^% N: N
; m4 b, B8 u6 t* i
' k6 ^0 P% A( u4 D) W
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) ' ~) r' t4 S6 \. U
! R1 q: P. P" ^) y9 y8 J( q( P
I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) 0 Y' W3 d' }+ S U2 [
- d( u4 P* r6 X7 T 2. No bones about it.
" g8 i* M7 ~% V. i4 Y9 \& F
; Z& w9 L. i0 A' c }' U 意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
/ G0 a; `6 J) `) N" {. y, v; C
# ^# c( Y0 F* h, B0 v9 s His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
1 Z& [; ?& @& D$ g u0 h6 H4 X6 f3 U7 [' G
Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。) - x) O0 I" H q5 d, s
. _1 ?$ R7 x0 ]# F: Z When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
+ ^6 b: c8 A% d* y0 {
* Z2 l. c8 ]' R; p$ z% [ No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了) # y+ m- R. B) m( g
( E6 }3 z# b* y6 n l 3. take it on me! . V+ H$ f; i, m$ p
6 S% g& @, X: L. O! z% n, N" M 意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
, T0 z4 K, y) I) d5 F2 v& n& y6 V5 x( N0 L3 O2 k$ G
Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy) $ w) J% Y9 O9 W6 T
D& _0 ]0 @/ T5 b- K6 O4 V9 l The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." ; ?4 P6 X3 |- D ]7 w# p5 K
) Q* Q, j+ k% j5 D4 k* }1 W
Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
; ^ \8 g+ h9 d7 R. U l6 ]7 A5 X0 [1 p& x4 S7 _) g$ N0 i
! p9 H- u: S* o; {" T2 p% O5 h
5 c ]3 p# t8 m9 P (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) . s( C+ M: H/ f( b
8 ?/ e5 V' a' s& y \" i' A 4. I am from Missouri. 4 x& o' V2 s# ]; u, s
; `1 h9 Q* \3 ^! C8 s; t
这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
3 B7 @& S; o, d. s3 I( L
% g5 O7 S' z6 \3 N4 M
; q4 i, \+ A5 `( u6 R He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. + z0 {" p3 D: d( A
6 }3 Y' l9 q2 O8 q: G
Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.)
& u) o" V! C0 U, A
; H. v0 {! r& q C0 x+ B We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. , R5 Y o, g0 v
' n& z0 l- J' `7 E( G
