, `$ {" [% V0 d I( l! [3 F: d: mEDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.
. L4 }7 G. S; u, O6 d# F
: v F+ G( w1 j& i+ g; qThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

+ M5 z6 k2 A5 g4 H, }! qPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall." ^' i. U# f& e! a& s% t. u
