9 E# p* v: ?1 ^' ^& y' G& REDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.% k! W- p5 q/ ]; j7 K5 y; @
* [4 L9 K+ @' y4 I P T; LThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.# _8 O5 K4 y1 S7 k- z
7 H6 d3 q5 [3 b" b }5 u"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."8 j" b3 q# G" E0 j. h9 \( S
