Rebates will be provided to lower- and middle-income Albertans to offset costs associated with the carbon levy. The rebates protect those who spend a higher percentage of their income on energy costs and have fewer financial resources to invest in energy efficiency products.

u/ t: R) v: h% O0 X) Q60% of households will get a full rebate: $200 for an adult, $100 for a spouse and $30 for each child under 18 (up to four children). Single parents can claim the spouse amount for one child, and the child amount for up to 4 more children.

v! h y# N3 y4 _3 k; n4 VThe Act applies a carbon levy to all sales and imports of fuel, subject to certain exemptions. The specific rates depend on the type of fuel, but all are set on the basis of $20 per tonne of CO2 in 2017, rising to $30 per tonne in 2018.
