0 L$ l, u% K! [& t6 L2 Q+ gEDMONTON — Southgate Centre today began a $108 million expansion to accommodate more than 30 new retailers and restaurants.

The two-year project, facing 111th Street, will add 126,000 square feet of leasable space on the ground floor — and two levels of parking above.; f. S) s) z) F" l- Q+ T

“Part of the redevelopment will include enhanced site lighting and closed-circuit TV security systems monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Southgate general manager Paul Fairbridge.

It also will include hotel-quality washrooms and private sitting rooms for nursing mothers.& d: R) }8 r* G6 U( [4 m- H

The expansion is expected to create at least 500 new full-time and part-time jobs.
