JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
$ u: V4 F5 M- {' l& Fthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  1 p$ O0 L; Y! x) L  o
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
1 N* k& ]* h' Z: R) c8 I0 bCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  , c% E# d' A4 w+ k9 J
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  % v- S& ?. l" R4 q- I' m5 d3 w

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:) l4 D& E- |% F

% ]7 v$ G) q) a  l/ _! w2 r6 k1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 20003 Z. z# u/ v4 e3 p
9 r9 X: n  R. t- q: N: N# c% [1 `1 H
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.9 d2 r! S9 P5 \8 ?

6 _: m! g! Z) ~1 ?/ t5 V$ `3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.7 X5 U$ A  Q  P4 \) T

! A  p6 S7 s7 @' g$ q* a4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
) q% X4 M8 b' C7 n( m2 hadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  , N5 L% [  ]- t  N7 {9 c
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.% f7 a4 j$ r( v' j1 o0 r
/ T$ \" t( L4 a' `& A6 F
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
& H5 D' Z  |0 C0 c6 M0 r( |( u* Wreferenda.
, s1 l( }7 C: y2 S* z% g$ m' @7 L  {: ^9 N
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
; Y( b( ~3 N4 i/ d, b* y; ~parties.* e$ e( W* g" l. `& _
" M9 S& u  j: x* H0 Y2 Z
7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
( \* l% L0 {7 K7 L, Treferendum.1 Q& Z5 p0 Q) j( \

" M- N& [1 V7 Z% H7 Z3 {2 z2 M To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
' x' b& N. n2 P' v# V- d2 _Bylaw 2000.2 c! x, S6 \, j0 b% c4 s% [0 y

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
. \& i, h" M" U/ x) N4 T9 l% Y$ @5 Iminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
. G# B  \, ?5 ^2 \7 s7 F$ ^! cfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
$ V- y& Y8 ~' t3 @/ a6 Nof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.% J) f7 R) p+ M( X- e

8 S/ M- ~; X+ V$ W11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  2 _* [4 V- ]4 d' y( S: v
the course of an election/referendum.
% e, w& o% x) S5 T- v
8 ~  Z; U+ Y- ]! j8 ~12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  8 x- A& g! q3 {9 ]7 I$ ^
process is in place.
; c% |+ ?  d1 V7 K& t8 {. D' E, ?- `* p# M
13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
3 L5 P1 L0 T8 [( l- Q+ [- q9 ?of activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
! A* P2 m* e/ ]( Z0 Bof campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  3 R& l! v+ \% |" o% [, V, C

% x1 _1 u2 o4 }3 S4 l3 _# gQUALIFICATIONS:
# H3 J4 z- B* Q: U3 U
( e% {  z3 M, P+ b1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
; b3 i% ]5 Q# m1 A( g$ Cfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  ; E2 P' Z3 s3 G
Union member.
% ^' W; v( q6 f5 }7 K0 B
% p7 V8 Y3 K2 A7 H- }5 L$ o2) Must have some experience in student elections.: |( Y" r7 C5 ^' F& I
2 n2 K! n; [% r1 B7 r
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  ' x* B( m/ O% R' P) x+ H& g: r
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  ; L3 r+ f% l) p, }6 L6 r& t
with the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.% y; U9 g+ S. o

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
