JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
. J. \9 `! H6 |# `2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
year following their appointment.

) S1 t& Y5 i* v+ y- Y7 EDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ n# b3 @3 G# N. Z7 t# T1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
/ v* U9 m) G1 D$ f, S* Y
$ m1 c1 l6 E, k% |- a- X2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.
  I+ i# A$ K6 h, u, Y
+ A# l( O- Y% ~" N, t# U3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
8 o4 t! |* o  e0 D1 sadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
/ o- ^" q6 Y, C5 @) m0 y- M! i" Oacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
3 i; T9 k$ J7 w- J7 J$ lreferenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
parties.

3 q; k/ O2 G1 j$ F- @7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
Bylaw 2000.

* S5 X! e+ G( V* `) M$ _' I10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
4 C* ], p) i( {" y, W% @" G7 Tfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
5 q1 C, o! h2 g7 o  Dof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
( l( E* i: s; I$ i- d+ d: ^
, _1 W/ T, ^0 ^3 c5 y11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
the course of an election/referendum.

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
9 u* r- c  ]4 _9 ~$ \process is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
( p4 Z$ p+ P9 Z- q! f: k0 e+ Zof activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

QUALIFICATIONS:

4 k6 Z  {! @) a& L' q6 w1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
Union member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.
3 h4 [! F, w, U! a: C* R
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
with the Students' Union.

6 Y- Q; R* x& _1 |" z4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

7 ]! }1 r4 n' H+ {* v3 g5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
staff, students and the general public.
