: N$ ]# R5 W. b+ c& x; X& K8 dJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
( d3 N: G/ J8 D2 Tthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
) s) l: U8 w! Y" n0 s2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
4 I$ y4 |( b0 GCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
# ]$ E) S+ z2 T5 J; zStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
4 v. C% Q0 f' O+ R* _! v9 pyear following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- b; I# Q0 v6 @1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

$ V! w3 I) C7 f$ U& T2 X  b. H2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
, r4 B, A5 T$ u1 ^1 {" greferenda.

5 w# ]% j" n! Z, J3 j1 b: i6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
parties.

. U: B* j. {. ^* v- [* I8 u7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
/ ]; H& }; f; q! u9 YBylaw 2000.

7 L" g( E) V) P' S10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
9 t( ^! G# V3 B: y2 f3 o1 Nfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

: R! g5 H/ j/ \; [; P1 k5 A9 o& U11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
. Z8 B- d* S0 V2 a- bthe course of an election/referendum.
3 \# ]; I0 N2 r+ P; l  U' j
12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
process is in place.
0 `$ t+ \( T* a" ~9 O5 q$ ]
2 }" g7 Z1 q2 K: Q13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

: ^2 R, l1 u1 h% L$ `2 D5 l14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
9 K- l- L, O7 O# c4 u+ Yof campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
Administration Committee.


QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
  r/ G7 I2 ]+ Zfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
Union member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.

3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
with the Students' Union.

% E% @" O$ P9 u' O4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5 y% K# R4 |1 Y% y5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
, I& g. m* Q1 H! n' m$ Wstaff, students and the general public.
