JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
+ S2 a# @5 r% {! O6 R0 A& \0 j% I" ~the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
# I  B& Z+ K# }& M# E' K. F2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
9 M9 Z. w6 w( ?4 X" d1 w5 SStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
+ i) `& T3 U4 A% [year following their appointment.

) d$ k8 y. `1 aDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

7 d9 m8 N7 \  f& @( @' K3 i0 ?1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

! K- |, p3 A4 A& W/ \% F: T2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
7 A6 l: D0 h) cadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

4 s" M' c, M% y6 Z1 A1 X& ]+ g  T5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
5 l" k# @; F. e* |$ v* rreferenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
parties.

- i! L8 L1 k- ]4 x9 g7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
Bylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
, v% h7 u" X: y. L5 U- w$ c2 ]from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
8 q8 P; W  K5 f) }7 j% ]" Eof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

2 L* e  ~: S4 ]' }. \* a7 I11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
$ t3 O) P6 ~- A: y. _' }5 ?the course of an election/referendum.

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
$ w6 L  z! P% x7 gprocess is in place.

  e9 r: z" \; O, b, i% F13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
/ H% ~; A: P1 |2 D8 fof campaigning.

Administration Committee.

( A: N' d3 ?3 {7 d1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
" |# U9 y' r1 D& hUnion member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.

$ c- E+ q; w# g3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
! _6 E; [# z# |& W% u6 twith the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
' z& r4 D$ G/ d* l2 t# H& B  U8 W8 k# F
5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
0 q: f8 ~# T+ ~5 X- e6 astaff, students and the general public.
