" H, P- n% j# t" v4 j% t6 XEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
/ y$ ^: F( O3 K•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
3 a" e1 z. |4 l7 X# n. T•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

# M/ R& \6 ^$ @7 n& y! z* |JOB REQUIREMENTS:
7 K# O4 w$ U8 H% _•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

3 n; ^2 i, u: a5 M3 ~. K•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
3 T" c+ d7 ~( j* Evideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
( Q# R( L5 e9 F! B  d/ e•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
2 W: Z# Q7 H& r* M& o! X9 c1 ^1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
" }) ?4 x7 x/ T. X4 sThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
2 F7 _+ p% R9 ~& R5 b1 PThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
