Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

: \9 q2 v& D; c4 W! E; i+ c•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

# `/ R7 n1 J! z9 WJOB REQUIREMENTS:
% T! W( s" ]- J1 K( D8 b& [8 E•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
" C$ V3 Z2 c  \2 \of the day.
& |) P2 `4 u6 Z1 n0 o6 X•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
7 c# @1 g- A  m! r5 _6 N•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
  L" p$ }0 j# l- y: G# w5 W* \9 S3 k; i$ l•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
' c: j) l3 f2 p6 [0 l; y! Fshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
; [. X; P6 q3 p) t) G•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
& `- M$ X7 \5 kvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

5 e" O' T0 X& [" hHOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
6 b" s( t& A) d/ ]& U6 w1 h1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
2 b! C* S( w2 q1 ]8 S& r& D& M9 [) eThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004

Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
