Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.4 F& {" l- [8 t) R

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.7 c8 P8 [- r, U% m. ~! c
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
* i6 x. g9 f" V/ I q2 l• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.& J' x6 H8 _0 Z( K& ?
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 2 w" S! J, T7 O( t$ I; |/ @& [9 h

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.

% z5 X$ {& [/ D+ |" `' X- }$ c0 ito be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

1 e% X' [9 b! \9 K3 j2 r% m• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).' |; [) g5 k2 _8 p
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
3 H6 e0 A, y; F5 f• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
) Y( N) N* t4 |; T) a• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) % f5 O; w* t! t# q
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.

video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training). P) Z) L0 `8 C" L0 Y
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week + @3 z0 c) A3 S* R2 k
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
# M( d' H1 h* ? ?& o+ KThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
