Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
* i6 x. g9 f" V/ I  q2 l•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.

% z5 X$ {& [/ D+ |" `' X- }$ c0 ito be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
- ^+ X& V6 w% J2 z8 Lof the day.
1 e% X' [9 b! \9 K3 j2 r% m•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
3 H6 e0 A, y; F5 f•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
) Y( N) N* t4 |; T) a•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
- T9 g" V- h3 i2 G5 h•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
2 U2 ^+ n, e' E2 H( t•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
# M( d' H1 h* ?  ?& o+ KThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

9 `" {0 O; w4 E7 qTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
