Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis." }4 _! f# ~5 n& c0 V' l/ Z

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.. u' N) S9 T' c7 ]# [% {9 y$ P
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
" v: @' ^) ]% I( Q3 B: C, o• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
/ b5 A4 Q% e' y( p% I) ^0 i9 M% A• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 7 @# W; V( P; t* T+ V
and traffic conditions.

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. 8 V8 g3 x1 e4 ^) W& u4 a* `* i
• Ensure the safety of all passengers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
0 W. R+ c3 f7 s• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
* ?- [) U) a6 l; ~• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
9 K! f1 `, y3 Eto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger ( w% ^9 u" a6 W: \

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).9 O. X# j9 B0 B- s8 M P' ?0 X
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.6 s- }8 m k0 _# I T6 q
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
7 j& o1 j! C1 e• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
. M* T! C4 [: O8 Z4 O: O( k$ xshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 9 a! t; M7 F9 S! u2 y: [- ~
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 8 C% E* A3 `/ k4 @8 c+ u
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

0 S& Y$ y" u/ |' S x( H% P1 ?• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
5 R# P0 P- K! P3 ]' R" RVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
5 b5 f9 x v6 R. c2 h/ o: k1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
& w) i4 k3 `7 m/ K1 n; hThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
