Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
& P  U$ d4 m* i: n0 `$ ^8 l# sand traffic conditions.
, ?& }5 u0 O9 {•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
. P9 J1 @" q! W+ [& m•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
7 I' j9 z! k, h" ~•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
: S6 z3 k, a# F; B; O0 i' i: tto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

3 ^1 L1 E+ n% G; Y1 A3 ]•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
) w" F3 ^, v4 o7 M, r! n•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
5 {4 `, S$ V, ~% [+ g7 L•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
7 G6 b# K0 n: t- `# }5 P6 nshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
' y8 y) p6 W/ i, o" g•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

0 e0 r1 J" n6 S8 CVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
( w5 c$ C7 L* L. t$ R. ~1 K( s1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
5 k8 d  f' s6 l. T4 p5 u) uThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
4 c% `# K5 h# d% U  ~The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
