Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

+ i* B/ n0 W3 m: I2 D  G. o/ Q2 Q•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
! i3 M6 S' v: v: U9 e•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
/ L- d8 S, E+ o! R, E6 B3 P•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

: x7 b7 R* @1 T8 uJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
3 Z( p1 k+ Y" J, S, K7 e! vto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
  H% j9 c& [! G% H  R- D' W' yof the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
; P) W: S! H2 ~& R& C% K•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
4 [& @9 O4 y0 B  h0 ?0 {) Z•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
% m/ z4 n+ D6 j) o) w•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
+ q8 @6 L8 A2 H4 FVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
4 h7 B# i: `  V8 E1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
* D( W4 K+ z$ A3 J  x" oThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

9 A! d* R0 e! f4 X2 U$ sTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
