Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.1 \5 ~7 r: r# w1 T

% z0 M% g1 f5 [0 V• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.

• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.2 [7 q; q. P5 L! P v& v; F4 W& I% z
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Adhere to schedules.
; w% M( c! X3 X• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
! Y8 N, ^$ q) v# @• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 6 T Z6 ]- c; W% o
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 3 ^5 T- Y1 T- ^: K( F

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).5 J1 e1 [. ^ x% ]
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years., x. B+ P3 h6 }- _/ V! C
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training." Y: }6 C) C2 G/ O
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) ( @6 w P, L! _" c$ Y9 O
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 1 n. n* u7 U) B
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
: v4 b, W1 b, Hvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:* A$ N+ i! {% ]0 \. W
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week , C0 q: G8 z0 h1 e/ {% R
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly( g$ H# i6 }4 y
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly( E8 Q. j9 [' _5 v
: j+ N1 R9 y' g( mSALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004
% T z6 o$ V9 e3 } RTraining Rate: $16.56 Hourly
' w9 Y/ m' B& } C/ tPost Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
