The Class 5 Road Test for New Drivers
What activities will I do during my road test?& B7 c, Y0 z) S4 H

· school and/or playground zone times and speed limits

· proper lane changing

For example, if you do not show good judgment of time and distance when turning left in front of oncoming traffic,1 H$ y; w( U- ]3 u; J
the test may be stopped.

Who is my Examiner?8 g$ O( {& c! @7 M1 S% ^

· The Examiner will introduce him/herself and provide proof of identification, when requested.
' X1 M2 h! a$ S5 t1 J· All Driver Examiners are licensed by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation under the Driver Training
: c0 I! R d% w7 Z) Rand Driver Examination Regulation. They are monitored to ensure they provide high quality road7 d; S7 ~: B' F, J$ c' |& d- u
tests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the
7 d z/ Q" S3 r. `4 lroad test.

b5 N' |% `+ Y6 O6 fWhat do I bring for my road test?

· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo)
) ?8 F2 ~9 G8 l5 c% Rthen you must also provide acceptable photo ID.6 q3 X$ `( z! Q3 U
· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the( J: c, d) I3 H# N+ z) @8 s
weather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).$ p6 d& U$ v8 \& x
· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid
/ u7 K4 i7 t8 Binsurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.- G' ~8 ]8 ^/ ~ V* J
· Payment for the test must be made directly to the Examiner or Registry office.2 ^0 l6 X+ Z* Y7 `2 x

* U" t# H* p/ rThe Examiner will do a vehicle check with you. You will be in the driver’s seat and the examiner will ask you to
% }$ ]" ]0 J7 V- j, I! kassist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and
. C4 Y% y" L' T- gdemonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield
* E" K. C- Y2 K2 cwipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions

· You will be given ample instruction in advance for each manoeuvre and activity.% F+ A _" ^) [3 ^: ]2 o1 `
· Points will be assigned for errors. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 points to pass the road test.
* Y6 @1 N; [4 r2 h! B+ ~You must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not
4 R" f% s" |, x8 _0 G/ U. Dstopping at a stop sign).
5 n$ ?8 q, I0 C5 E· The Examiner will not try to trick you.
% h6 G0 y" Y5 A6 V( k· The Examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal.
3 a6 H1 Z' U! u8 X. m- q5 ]· When the road test is finished, the Examiner will highlight the areas you performed well, as well as7 I5 D$ ~* c( l& z8 _7 E2 h
the areas you need to improve upon. The points for errors will be explained at this time.' @, @& G6 J/ u7 u5 }! c

What do I do when I pass my road test?% K! @9 [4 y( g' {, E M. p |
5 i+ |) {2 l5 _& G: s: F5 xThe Examiner will give you a copy of the Driver Examination Checklist form. You will also be given a copy of the5 n+ M. c/ V# k( ]$ j
Test Permit. This will indicate that you have passed. Take this permit, along with your learner’s licence, to any
0 x# r$ X+ {. e; oAlberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this1 R5 T+ D& R0 t" J9 @, v

What do I do if I do not pass my road test?

not passed. Keep the form and bring it to your next road test. You may not take another road test on the same day.
