The Class 5 Road Test for New Drivers

The road test is about 25 to 30 minutes long, including instructions and feedback.

The road test will run the full time unless the Examiner feels that your safety, or the safety of others, is at risk.

tests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the5 ?! d* _9 u2 x" h0 I

What do I bring for my road test?
! H; Q7 c4 \+ E3 x& G
1 s& z4 D3 d5 V7 S( @, H· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo)
6 {+ g0 L6 i# uthen you must also provide acceptable photo ID.
7 g1 F# f$ \% F· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the
- J S4 G7 I2 ]: [2 zweather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).
6 e8 }/ f3 ^: D" \8 c$ L# A· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid
% v8 ], i0 B( Z5 b9 Linsurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.7 V& c' x# i/ P( r% e; n
· Payment for the test must be made directly to the Examiner or Registry office.

9 i4 m) p6 O7 ^# t6 ?The Examiner will do a vehicle check with you. You will be in the driver’s seat and the examiner will ask you to' x$ ~- o+ s( b
assist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and
- y- t: E8 R: [4 Z1 r% p1 l0 Pdemonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield+ l# F) H- |" j; |" v' r- c: U1 J
wipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions
( X: V* Y; t) cthat you will be given during the test.

& |" z% h3 J6 M! h0 D· You will be given ample instruction in advance for each manoeuvre and activity.
- n1 o1 D7 n9 ~- X/ N· Points will be assigned for errors. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 points to pass the road test.
- R5 r+ \+ Y+ ]" @/ I7 a# _You must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not# E' I9 e( b( B# [( C. }) Y) s

· The Examiner will not try to trick you.
( C4 K' E6 r; A, D8 ~% N· The Examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal.
7 ?0 M! C/ u, x* Z7 i$ \· When the road test is finished, the Examiner will highlight the areas you performed well, as well as, Z/ W- M4 F8 p- w' w
the areas you need to improve upon. The points for errors will be explained at this time.

, v I. [4 W; J: X( V) s8 J: ~Alberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this

What do I do if I do not pass my road test?
