an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving
! D1 g% P+ H7 L1 e: o/ g% |4 D: ` C* }" Dinnovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops* D! H/ E9 w k' T& H
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
2 a# ^* z' f4 m% E# [! b* m" ncarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be$ `4 [8 Z. Q* I$ v) A
guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and
& v; g* Q5 O. m4 \! Xinvestment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has+ W$ v" d2 h, ~6 H
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large

government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in
' r }, r$ s8 ^9 D3 i; m' ?line with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages2 o N, {+ H2 b" A) q. k* M k
competition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that" Y; z5 ]" A6 V6 ~) |% `
any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
