) I) x- I* h9 A* UOther costs of leaving have also increased and the university " u" i& r( }' X2 X9 }
increases the tuition fee by few percent every year and international
@4 Q6 I9 T, O0 Bdifferential fee was increased by almost 20% last year. Add to this,
! o) M5 z* p Y* W: z+ j/ W4 hthe fact that the university housing has no more space for newcomers : F C. g% U2 x( R/ Y s7 T. u3 n$ d
and most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were / i+ F" H' m( }, q- ^0 v
asked to look for a residence on open market.
* G0 Q" u$ }2 A& B2 j2 j: Y; x1 }4 s5 b2 m [2 Q( L, n& T9 G2 ^/ Z+ J
While the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has , h9 w5 t' F: K1 ~0 T) s6 x8 m* S/ C
increased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid
5 M2 O3 k2 `4 e' Dexactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our
$ ]0 i. f+ u6 e. W/ Madmission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students * Z7 G8 O3 d- T* k
=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after
^/ D5 }& y2 R! ktuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just
c4 W7 }& N( G- ximagine that a new student gets the same amount of money that I am 7 H% q3 V2 P7 ?7 ~3 G
getting now and I was getting 3 years ago but he or she (like all of # M: o" L2 b2 K$ B# u9 c
us) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was
: ~) z7 N% |$ K* Ladmitted and has to incur at least 70% more in average living costs.

* K/ j* c( b. M! J pstudents are the main pillars of research work at the university./ ~8 z2 N! c4 R! B$ k9 q6 ?0 `( P
7 d1 s0 Y7 W$ Z; D+ g& d' r
My objective in bringing all abovementioned points in your attention
8 E$ W3 t3 M* f6 ~is to question the adequacy of financial aid for graduate and
( c( Y' }2 j# L$ p yespecially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take v8 F' C2 Z$ _1 ]. L/ }
' c+ j0 ]; X' linitiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for 5 Q2 N: J g; V0 H9 j. a
graduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?
