% W2 Q* n/ O5 pCALGARY — Screams filled the air after a 17-year-old teen was killed after being struck in the head with a pickaxe at a house party.

9 y: P1 o# W) p! i: ~Neighbours said about 100 teens were at a house in southeast Calgary when the attack happened in a detached garage about 11:50 p.m. Saturday.

Lisa Poole, who lives two doors down from where the teen died, rushed outside when she heard a lot of screaming.
“
! L' H; [2 g+ N/ cI saw one boy laying there with a pickaxe stuck through the front of his head and some blood on the ground ... I haven’t slept at all and I can’t get that picture out of my head.”

Jeff said two high school-aged girls live at the house with their mother. He said large parties are common at the residence.

9 H4 Q) X4 S% b# I( }% ^' _6 BChris Briggs, who grew up in the same neighbourhood and was friends with McKay, described him as nice guy and avid athlete.

. G$ `: A, m4 ~: x“He was a pretty good guy,” he said. “He played hockey with my friends, he was huge into hockey.”

& e% i6 {" f0 S7 G2 q“We’re talking to a bunch of people who were there to find out what happened,” he said.

“The kids have been fairly co-operative and forthright.”
