The VERTO Project
$ z% v# |8 ?$ A1 j5 p2 Z5 Y D" W0 bThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
2 r+ m4 [# c- t; N5 M# pbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
6 S1 G t9 F8 w' nemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
7 f4 w6 K7 q9 mprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
) J. Y2 q. y* Y! j& L. n/ P, t8 }stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.5 z6 I( e/ O0 y z) k# V
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
4 T" l3 D1 X8 n, t9 bmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
0 g% A x5 g Q9 econflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the( ^% B4 i$ r7 M8 k, k
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
?. v! I& b4 Q7 e6 {' Mnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve K/ o/ k0 O, v& L9 e
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
q. n9 J9 X& w2 o: J- E7 C$ oparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment- r6 }* f7 d6 [% _& }8 b, a
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
. P- C. U$ P* T) y3 ]/ S; zexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and" V4 t& |2 d. p I4 p" u
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a" y0 W, N) h s$ w4 {. q+ U8 _
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
; A3 i- w& w. ~& a& O& I% X8 tThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
4 p2 Z6 }1 q* j# U; J- ~9 YYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.$ A! Y0 d- |$ P3 Q$ y/ Y
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)9 r+ v( s/ U0 b: W' J1 R6 p
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the% e L& a, _& {
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
1 T) E l& S8 F' d1 d8 xwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
/ G7 K. K* H$ _4 [• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
3 ^9 J8 n, Q$ y1 R0 E4 vbeing realistic to each youth participant; K6 Q9 @% K! f' _6 U
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
! I5 _" L% p( a' Tyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
7 ?/ p1 G7 V8 Y0 z! w% i- ]each participant, C8 G5 ^! x# o% y
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
( C: S3 U. ]! G/ f8 `. q% P$ ccover letters and resumes etc.
2 p6 s6 M- J2 Y& n7 x; [+ B• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work7 |1 v$ ~ `& `; l9 m. y
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
- r& ^7 d$ u |placements
/ a: L0 N8 Z$ @2 }9 K" X• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
. ^6 C0 P% I4 S: G0 [. K4 v/ Rthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
- h0 ]$ _1 L! V( ]1 u z2 K• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach; d0 U2 @2 R' Y& s: d
is being fulfilled for each youth
; S) Q+ u7 D0 z+ z1 [1 p. A• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
& a0 o8 I0 p# @$ u% W% Y6 Vrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project( O3 o3 C! n" k: X, B* P( j2 B' W/ n
• Other tasks as they arise within the position

# C: L6 @3 D5 Y8 h: E" ` Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
5 z4 D; n# U* [% r/ N! [" e. o- Q A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
