The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:
) B7 C+ k2 S- f( J( D4 a
) S. N$ Q. i) ^- f, ^7 X1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
5 R _( X1 \3 r' o• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
! m( g, R* {8 _" j- F• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals o' m- V3 z3 l, {2 \+ w
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored% K) Y0 q* n* e7 u m- ~
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals& q/ L4 A/ u) W" f
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.5 B, M9 ^3 W6 a8 N# D' y7 k

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
4 y. M- C2 c; E- W• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.7 E7 H% _; R. R: h# \7 P
- ~% h& \& Y q1 X% g, w: m3. Tracking System
' I1 t0 i* l/ m* p• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

9 @4 V! Y" |2 F$ G5 G5 H- bCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
