The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. / ^' @# {2 I9 ^" b& J
! L8 j7 L7 H& ~! l A# ^# g4 d# dResponsibilities include:6 h' N! K% _- \( m
+ E; n) D& \2 ^% K0 f0 q1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)% a2 s+ j( x" T# K+ ^2 |. z
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department% {* Z& f& f" P9 i
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
0 B1 Y3 S! A R2 N; I* p• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
0 K( n! _" t+ g, F! V, f4 {• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
7 K7 f! k1 R* `" ~- K2 k4 a• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

3 |( `! X9 n, R6 `2 g6 c* ?8 Y2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
- E" d+ n) P0 F$ y• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.) v" D& F' b5 w$ @$ F# g ^" [

3. Tracking System7 h) @, B7 r3 g7 i$ q; X
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

5 x$ [7 S% K+ K- D* M$ H, ZCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.
