The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. , a. i2 h$ X+ x' e

. j+ d# ?, o: [- I5 y# D- Q1 E+ n( a1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)8 O+ _7 Q3 x" _3 Y' f
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department% s5 N% F3 k P6 e7 U0 Y
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals3 B W& o0 w$ n( \1 [, [
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
# _( n. o& v$ g+ x• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
5 `2 m5 L6 k6 Q• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

* W- ?. J E2 G2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
" q: F: @5 D. u3 R9 K• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s & i" b' N% R( x: C; H P% ?5 g9 L
- D% T3 l, a9 G: l, hCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required. . K1 u8 t# B, m. b M
) `' M. [, @% ^ hThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
