As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

" b) V& R8 D) M9 ^* A8 OReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
: c. n  J" `' Z" t% {•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
7 [' B5 ^  z; n5 u7 S•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements# C: G& N# _  P8 g4 f: S# G& @
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module+ x1 ~7 N9 R/ C( k! J3 N$ ~
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's+ V6 W! Q2 w  z1 S4 E
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers : ~: F: f/ d6 }8 I
Job Requirements:  " a$ K: w- ^, t% J' Z8 `
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
# B" f. H  M! E: m- t% [# R0 R* h•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset# U2 R2 L# @. `( F$ T
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience* c1 O! }; z! i- v+ v' {! y
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
- y: z4 N- [$ b; ~* g9 c; j•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets- Y9 T! `1 y" G3 U0 J7 I8 I3 g$ x5 q
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies$ P" j9 X  Q# |/ x, n7 n
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
