This is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.7 M: s# E/ o  n5 ^7 S

As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

* S, G: ?$ x, F# D$ D. eReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
$ [+ }, S6 o, y7 h. @1 R& K+ q5 r9 {8 y•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
( l: f5 \- s: b( n5 V" U•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
! m2 Z% i" I; n* o5 p8 |, A. D•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
' B% q6 }5 J9 @/ [1 j•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's6 Y3 ]2 b4 i4 A$ w# ?- @7 }2 @, ^9 @
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
/ Z! V# E4 P* z6 Y* F•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset1 n; N" `# a, O% o
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience+ ]' z4 k$ g7 [8 a( @
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
5 R; E7 T. y: Q5 k•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
/ B- w3 N( {5 f) E3 H! t- D•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies0 ^' j1 A1 M/ y" f* a
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
; D+ {& \* m, t* a! u9 U* V5 D•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills( _; `9 N& u' @2 }( ]* w! \8 K
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Salary:  $27.00 hourly
