Duties

: W+ Z. N' r8 S    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
! f1 q( {  F/ W    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
. Y# l. T" ^, `# ^* Q5 m    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
" s' p# I. b, B& p    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations* E- Q: T5 v1 Q* k: g% C! L* N
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
9 t9 V3 Q0 J0 H9 t, d    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
0 }  y' C) w8 }1 |: Q3 m    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth/ _4 q, c  J: a# _' ]3 @  F- ^( a  L
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
& x* F9 B+ g% j    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
. c3 J$ A; e3 a1 O+ I9 C0 ^( c    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports% {  V  K/ J! S2 G8 L5 m
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
: ~: u+ D2 ^8 U2 V    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
4 T$ J9 E+ G4 S$ F: U    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities* ?! g0 I) ]: [8 ^
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications0 B6 v2 x  t+ ]0 e) T8 e% Q

: ~. x1 e  z1 [8 w- T    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
! K2 c* r: M' e; x! Y9 I    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
( p1 y: d% H# ?" k4 b' ~    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies( g9 H) S8 g! `5 X* Y2 R" A- T7 f( S4 E
    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
; I$ ~8 y5 J" M1 G8 ?# {/ n    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community; }* @5 L4 l. i' T
    * Fundraising skills an asset
  K( Z3 w0 X; e4 O# i9 n+ ^    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills

    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills, s9 e( Y  T$ N+ @1 w/ y  B# V! A5 z
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
. `/ Z  w. T# `  C8 l. F$ w* V  a    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
