EDMONTON - Prices for new homes in Edmonton fell 5.3 per cent in July compared to the same month last year, marking the biggest year-over-year drop in 23 years, said Statistics Canada today.& y( c9 v$ |, w- [& ?, F

"Markets in these cities continue to adjust after experiencing record price increases in the last two and a half years," the federal agency said.

1 g" A3 D! h" q# d. Q' ZAs the market continued to cool in Western Canada, prices for new homes rose nationally at a slower pace in July for the sixth consecutive month.

; a; K' u5 C9 N& t( C1 wPrices were up 2.7 per cent in July from a year earlier, down from June's annual pace of 3.5 per cent. On a monthly basis, prices edged up 0.1 per cent between June and July.
