Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!# F+ F- D. n- ~+ T/ T
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch& n8 F+ ~& G5 O

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
$ r2 c4 r" b7 a. V# n% v/ Q3 tMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule& O- d9 g1 a6 Y& A8 g4 g) Y7 t! a
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
! F1 Q. V9 o; W! ?, q7 o5 c0 X& B* n% kenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste0 |+ M C8 U; C+ T0 x" p
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
8 L* d# O6 }+ E5 M* B0 overmin-composting and residential recycling.
% l3 ]: J9 b6 q6 d c. x" W" B& I3 P
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
8 ]0 e, V1 K% Dto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
4 K% ]% a/ N- u1 v" q+ p: Mcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:3 g$ W$ T0 Y2 A% U
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important9 _* u+ n. ?; r& s' |0 c( H
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
3 q! j7 e7 \$ U: z, `importance of composting and recycling." Y: l: g, V; Z9 w( ?, t" q0 [" T

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the7 W5 ^6 n( V7 k5 j8 n3 ]( g2 }
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;6 O! v2 } [, z0 f7 D
public education display booths; assisting with programs and( Y1 w8 Y1 \; c% h0 g& {! |9 u8 \
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at7 f( u# \9 v# q
various demonstration gardens and general public and school) ?1 b3 u' h. @% d" B
presentations.

volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
