Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
& F: j( m( U4 Q5 E% c) E2 E) JMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
$ i* j! y" {; e( \$ ^. \- y(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
; T$ h0 M4 \& lenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste' y; `6 f4 A9 B% X$ k. D" a( Y- j
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;5 X2 y) i% v; {
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
! d. A; i9 u0 U) `# O( ?- \" c: q6 ]' y" k) Z* R
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
! [$ s. y0 x2 L+ |4 S3 @, N! tto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
, E6 c6 g7 d8 J& F' {. Dcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:! b8 y6 Z0 _5 `6 \3 V; l, O
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important9 I& U+ s: p7 b% X5 n, l6 {
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
0 e# q4 u6 Q1 C0 J) Oimportance of composting and recycling." E- P$ @/ L3 E

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
0 ]3 s9 j$ _2 k! g4 d5 f. q0 JReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;) V7 v. y" B# x
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
0 G6 n% U( X% c5 t! ^: smaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
1 k1 x6 p" i) `# evarious demonstration gardens and general public and school3 A; l3 j, `+ N& T2 ~+ P
presentations.: Q4 M, s+ }& Q4 z" K' t; z8 D% {/ U1 a
; L+ R' M1 @2 c+ ]+ Q
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
C/ B, r+ u- y+ M- Vvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
" P& d$ g' Y; y: P/ b2 Hmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
" F$ e: B: `4 b/ r: G {6 a# o. Mknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master9 z1 i5 k( ?& x

-Saturdays all day - for three consecutive weeks.
