Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!& K e; W) _: w& L4 t# a" ^
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch- w7 @( C7 P g+ x

9 ~' w, m j# L. C! SDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
% G% |5 X" `8 T& R |7 x+ g) EMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule4 x j" z; Q0 y% r+ `
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
7 E; s4 |! a5 C6 K( X; Y4 |environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
4 k5 e% m6 W' h" t% O2 y6 i- Amanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;* ~5 @$ P) F( z5 `
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
- t. H7 y& P! H) K% F1 g4 p3 G; G& b6 e& t# z
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
1 `+ J" r: ]& ~4 L( z( v6 p- B6 Lto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
3 ~: m8 A+ o j- H# Tcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:) J0 U/ I' {, A" v0 z6 r
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important8 q, h0 `3 k5 {' Q2 I m
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
( L2 |# V2 y7 l! m% r# R8 |8 simportance of composting and recycling.+ N& _ ~4 h; c5 Z0 p8 S3 E& w
5 m |1 o$ f! f" T' J4 zExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
' U$ D; U9 ]5 k" O0 uReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
# F$ k @9 k+ d( y8 F+ J1 vpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and6 J& u4 K8 X v9 u; [
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at7 B3 e0 A: b4 s8 ]# N1 G
various demonstration gardens and general public and school7 b/ f3 l; `1 D1 R$ y1 v2 g3 ]
presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
+ T# r: D) u& D9 `/ fvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the' z8 y2 `) U; _/ E4 s, k2 F
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your, m4 V4 }! f; I
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
