' k8 y9 A; \, \: }( F3 uDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the: n$ q5 T6 R, n" l) ]
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
$ N c; @+ x' E7 i4 V! d+ f6 Q* z(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
* u, I8 ^5 v2 h, {- Eenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste/ Y! A; f. \! S* L" P
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;1 X6 X4 E# C+ k2 H; k; Q: \8 V
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
8 \8 G/ H, [" ]0 f; |% o' m" [
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips! W/ ^/ z/ i' @4 m, S! E
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates( e1 o' P; Q, V% f9 ]
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
: K1 P7 J- Q3 W- H' B( ?. i( breduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
4 e+ ]. V2 a. e# x7 }9 cresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
2 P0 X( x6 B: Qimportance of composting and recycling.& O7 t: N6 E1 N6 [
~, z; F+ S+ K. g& {8 C: o H$ Q
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
: D8 l( l9 C: XReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
* A# j/ W% K6 k2 apublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
9 x9 h. q7 s% i1 d% ?# q- _maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at% L% ?, X. S4 Z& }" w; |
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
2 v/ V8 R, s/ a+ d* F- y% z- Vpresentations.
Y$ G& n/ s7 Y; R @' O1 }) o- q% X* j8 s
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
8 f, O4 a, {3 t8 d, j% ]volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the% l% O8 h/ }+ c/ [, {" Y
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your/ j+ Z. n3 V8 \. ]; P
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
