Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

+ I+ A( I: }3 w7 R5 `- fDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the& R' x& q$ Z a& I
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule3 X) G4 I. M) j' D8 [2 E
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about7 F/ B" M# k$ _' w$ m: n
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
) l2 G( W8 s$ F& R& kmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
$ ]! g) `: W- `8 [% D4 bvermin-composting and residential recycling.
) A8 B2 g1 [4 Z1 N3 l
, x) L2 T7 o9 p& r4 R- SThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
. M. @3 Z7 e& _- ?4 q& Y0 Dto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates, o/ a% Z1 I/ t1 o5 I* i( j
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:4 r' I1 o3 e8 G% p, F5 w5 X4 D
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
2 R4 D4 E0 u- cresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the$ n9 h3 s& I5 U* S% O
importance of composting and recycling.7 E( T+ p( h" y1 X4 S

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
* c& _2 [7 h; Y. w% ~Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
8 s9 Y- W& b3 I5 @( ^public education display booths; assisting with programs and) e' v* X1 V- n) {% ?8 y
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at4 t9 q3 B l* e* h* z9 s
various demonstration gardens and general public and school4 j0 f+ p) |2 c5 s T3 |
presentations.

volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the2 ^! H B$ o0 c
