# {' \$ u+ r U* }( GDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the* X# a7 C/ E6 B& A8 A
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule5 H% g( ^& R7 @2 Q3 Q) s0 ~
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
9 [ V* Q3 T" g/ A, b# N! N" jenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
/ y, c9 m: X" v3 l2 y7 r! Q5 W$ d: m0 _management; home composting; household hazardous waste;! ^; t' X0 L: ~! m2 d6 \. c' G
vermin-composting and residential recycling.0 l; J; `% J+ W, [1 c5 m, @6 [
& [5 w6 _/ n( B2 c# q# [- a
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
9 I" X9 u* ^' U8 {. V: {) Nto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
: A+ O" N& U6 z0 L, X; acomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:& b1 q# z: R" n5 T3 n( i
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important" d, V L% g" n3 Z" M5 r) c) {9 s3 Q
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the8 X* C. S% i6 X- `, W
importance of composting and recycling.

, ~0 U E9 e0 X& M: S& EExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
' ?* W8 H( F- ^) W+ xReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
9 n9 C% q0 o# `/ U0 v% apublic education display booths; assisting with programs and( l1 c: Y4 C* L: V# t6 T2 s9 c6 B
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at- R! ~2 W/ Z! @5 b7 w
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and1 E- I x0 |4 l, P, u/ D6 S& p* P
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
