According to a March 2005 inventory of Alberta construction projects, oil sands projects are leading the way in the ever-growing Alberta economy.
5 ~, A) l: |& P! Q5 i7 {& B4 {The inventory of construction projects is compiled monthly by Alberta Economic Development( AED ). The list compiles all developments in the province with a value of at least $2 million that are either recently completed, under construction, or planned to start within the next two years. As of March, 946 projects throughout Alberta fit that category.9 W/ g+ ~0 x8 ]/ m8 W
Of these projects, oil sands construction accounts for $69.25 billion – the largest component by far. Suncor’s Firebag Phase 2 in – situ project, Millennium Vacuum Unit, and Voyageur projects are listed among the 47 oil sands initiatives. Projects by Syncrude, OPTI Canada Inc./Nexen Inc., EnCana, Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., and others round out list.
% x5 n# s& Q; J, z! ]; X& a/ eOther leading sectors sectors are infrastructure projects totaling $10.55 billion, institutional projects at $5.5 billion, and conventional oil and gas at $4.37 billion.
