thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead + e- U8 P. W& l* C6 p
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
4 f8 D. c! G/ E9 ^: F  qEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 3 X1 G- X- {: K) _2 ~' q
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 4 |: Y0 J4 x4 n8 ^

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
' \; A5 A  t5 W, \" ~; Mexecution of the YWCA Strategy + L) {5 H5 ~+ W  E% O* z

2 o/ p8 z: Z2 W6 M$ ?Specific responsibilities include:  
9 {, e- b- r$ }( x , k) `7 J& e& ~2 R
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
  w! g6 p8 n5 ]. _; Y5 l9 zthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by - c# B) o- J( O# j5 q
the Board of Directors;  ( _% y( k# \# K0 a; N/ d. t
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations : x' V$ V; u+ V% K  ]6 `
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to . |: ^+ {# `% F/ s
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 1 o8 ~4 K! [' m6 L$ o; u
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
* n, H5 }; s, L2 ~9 i2 D& S/ ^2 p* mobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
. w1 O4 W9 ~( ~9 e; m3 mthe board;  
& R  J. u2 b8 Y•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  9 [2 C6 d8 Q! z
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion - `" M5 k( ~: S4 n% c+ R' @) m
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 5 ~& I7 s% t" |2 `* C7 h. J
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ! K4 v7 l  N2 A9 o+ l- J
changing needs of the organization and community;
* h$ e( S( ]5 J) [; v. V•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue # x8 N/ v5 Y, k/ o
commitments; 9 e% q; `+ ^( |  j0 ~0 G
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  * ~3 I' a4 ^) b- Z* Z
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
4 O9 y* h% W9 _selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
8 T! ]' i7 j+ L5 H  ], e•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; % Q. `# y3 G9 D3 i# N
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to % R( `8 L$ r1 D/ c! E& i
effectively and positively represent the association;
  Q/ {: {5 k( S! R  @4 ~; J" W$ b1 ?! Z) c' V
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
# \3 |. z7 @9 `2 [9 L4 Pthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
- {& e  R7 L' P( D1 f•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal $ K: T+ L% \% g  M
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
5 q! D9 x% e' [the forthcoming year;  " U4 H% C7 l8 X
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
; w; O  n) V( z6 [( R, k1 d, k1 rpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
3 I3 f& B8 y) B4 E4 h# z! j* HYWCA Canada; and
8 ?+ K7 e# A  \9 D  A5 ~6 b•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
6 }. \: q! i: }7 _$ H9 TForces.

Required Skills & Abilities 7 N% e4 I: f. r
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; . N2 }. i" q" T% E- G
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
" f- L7 {. j; u6 faround decisions, plans and actions; 7 u8 |' ?" x2 _! R; o$ Q6 _8 S) s
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ; y$ d) A) \2 n& ]/ i' o' J
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 1 `( n  P3 I1 G( w
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
+ T! \; a0 C0 R# ?- F- D•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ; u3 t% z2 }3 A# l7 n' w
simultaneously; % b7 B( a5 p1 }# `# k8 v" f
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 1 y. F. n/ W7 S$ I
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; - `& M& G/ f4 u7 B: x
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and . m# z" o8 y% {' t. n- \4 J. l
•  Superior negotiation skills. ; L! ~. P0 {; G! g- u6 y! b# C

- ?& Y/ s8 x: F% y Required Professional Designation / Certification
% G% y3 P. K  ^( l0 \7 A3 b9 e7 R% L•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
7 v5 H, i1 c- D ; ?$ Q* f/ X0 R* j2 n
Required Experience
$ \3 e( O, n3 L2 |1 |+ f•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; " W: c6 X) g. F! b
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation " F/ b" s+ x: Q4 W
abilities;
% i; L3 A* B6 |' t6 d•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 1 r1 g) x5 t9 z5 \' ~
Networking and Fundraising;
, T( B! e% V! V9 }7 C•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
. v7 j% Z8 V+ W+ {and financial statements; and
0 x5 D" C9 G/ W4 t( f8 `•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women / Y( S7 P% n" }$ D4 H+ i. c9 z2 a
centered perspective.
