thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead   q: Z" Z, j1 g0 ~2 T6 T8 j+ H
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 9 j, J# ?" {' O+ `, a2 V% D
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ' h) u9 H- h/ D- r( q- Q) c2 U
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ' c' Y: H: g: O$ {
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the # t1 a, P6 j2 }( n- ^- C5 O" P

Responsibilities 2 M, Z, Z) ]6 t( X% ]! N+ G2 @( r

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
4 L' F% B8 y2 ?& @execution of the YWCA Strategy
1 D0 x% \: r, E5 c; r & y& u3 L  G' A! a- L
Specific responsibilities include:  - D( r% K* P- P! P5 n

) S* o! N) V$ U; J/ |# B•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of * r+ u# [! B1 I
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
' n) l6 a! f/ M8 l4 E4 A; Vthe Board of Directors;  * j4 a8 [1 J/ }; u
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
- q# @& R" B# N+ |' Y+ Rincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 5 ?  G% N8 e- O, H6 {+ N
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
' h0 m# [; U( b•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ) V" A1 `0 Q) `+ b6 w
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
- I3 p2 z. `" P8 J" q5 `the board;  # l8 H7 ?& C* j7 I. w9 O
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  3 N8 H* ?+ k6 e% F8 N
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
0 V5 V+ d8 f- k, t+ H& Q5 |! sthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
' u' `) ?  e) g6 m6 O•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
  y$ r) w- T7 L- r1 R/ Mchanging needs of the organization and community; 4 ?8 y6 t4 j* E5 E( j: j  [+ f
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
, g' ]; R( U2 |/ L, U2 B( g% Pcommitments;
0 D5 e) w. K$ R. h2 K9 a* P•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  5 Q8 v3 S: _0 A, o+ K
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective + X# Z: b) X& Y1 V, w
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
8 J& Y# V9 a8 [2 H5 ?9 C•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
5 H: q, ]: j, M•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
) o+ o, e4 q# J9 v& g" zeffectively and positively represent the association;
' S8 n/ X8 `6 h5 z, w8 \' b2 G4 H$ W. ^) o% m  {
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring + g# l0 F. H8 f1 u5 K' @
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ! f1 T* G# s, _! s* p
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
, e" _+ {: L! j0 s' _  d! @performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 6 _3 X6 R6 L! U# Z
the forthcoming year;  
# o: A& u2 Q7 H- I! S. x( ~, g•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical " z3 C8 C3 c8 Z$ \
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of $ N/ d) F) a8 e/ O' y" A+ U
YWCA Canada; and % f- K1 ^& Y  a. u
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
2 A9 m% ]9 M* ]* s, mForces.

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
8 E2 ^) W+ `& n! ?9 b•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

6 \- N4 w- z& I; l( @* {8 R•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
% R& ^% {7 {, N; t0 |•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 3 {# m( C! m# t. D
and achievable with realistic timeframes; : F) T1 a1 K5 N, j1 i9 D* E
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
& T( H# u( ~( l" jsimultaneously; + r+ P9 |( n, E6 s/ V- o
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build - D! a0 n) P! @3 i
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; " V; u+ v' y: e  x
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
6 u9 Z* Y  `6 \: T•  Superior negotiation skills.

/ K9 @3 v% _4 _$ K Required Professional Designation / Certification
% S5 d' E) j, U+ n+ P+ \! n•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
- t9 ^. f# y" h* a1 i% n: V 9 o) D  J- I( j$ g! L
Required Experience
4 W: j9 `8 t( `3 a" d7 k•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
. p0 t' I4 C; n9 p1 e2 i•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
% z$ `* L+ ?4 D# v2 E. Vabilities;
1 z: _- N" ]- E0 m•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 6 k( |/ ~- d1 X( f1 t; ?8 G& y2 J
Networking and Fundraising; 5 @: I- O% t. A9 P
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting * p% N; v$ w: i; u$ G7 {7 |
and financial statements; and / E" {& t' }9 Q9 a, \
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
$ q$ ~; J* _" e! c0 X, {1 e; Zcentered perspective. 2 J6 ]2 K% `4 m" O7 i
