1 V: s4 A# a, O- r. l" r( @( ?Edmonton police assured residents that they had no reason to be fearful, but officers did ask neighbours for their shoe sizes and vital stats during a canvass of the area.

“They (police) asked us what size shoes we wore and how tall we were and our weight,” said a woman who lives across the street from the crime scene but didn’t want her name published.$ p, s( R& ]' j5 M* C4 j6 v( U

The woman was found slain inside the 1,200-square-foot home shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, said Edmonton police spokeswoman Lisa Sobchyshyn.

Thurlow and Marg Essington, who have lived in the neighbourhood for 35 years, could see the police forensics vehicle from their front window just a few houses away.

“We’ve never had anything like this happen around here,” said Marg, a senior citizen.

The slain woman, whose name has not been released, is the city’s 24th homicide victim of 2010.
