The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
* u; m6 a; x2 L" U U, v! yRoles and Functions$ X' o9 n) d. J1 G$ M- q7 J$ e
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the; l% B2 z( T" ~: [
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
: w# r8 i0 V9 O( O# uoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has8 f0 g, _3 \4 ^# a9 u/ _- R$ m9 ^ Z
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,0 i4 v3 k" F9 \7 P
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular6 n/ R+ S6 u8 V: c: A$ S
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is8 O( W7 u1 X8 n
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an5 q; U3 @% x* y
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires5 \/ I) G$ t( a; t3 a \
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend! u9 Q8 G0 [6 S& c1 a
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.1 T$ R& U$ U* B- b6 H! `

Functions and responsibilities:
$ f( k$ G! L! l! pThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:. K3 g$ X. {# Y3 X: v9 w
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
' ^, e, `) @, gofficers of the Coalition
" G' d1 c4 _: z% p9 F3 t! B2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural1 R" x! u# U) L7 ^7 d( V0 L
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
, L1 _* J: t `6 ^: U+ L1 jand public institutions
! Q% q; [# X) ~ i8 ]! z3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through7 d7 S' x& q( T; ^1 X! a! N. T
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives& L1 u* u2 g9 |- F1 ^
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
) z! v4 u" a# l/ C3 m& N |' F9 P3 gorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
) d5 M# S6 i/ R) @# othese organizations$ X% V7 I9 i* K1 ~+ x# j. ~9 H) E9 }% W
5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community" [: V+ G6 G+ G$ I+ ^' x

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic9 X" D5 r: L w, _8 |6 j' [6 o
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society* I0 Z5 J7 D9 B
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
5 c+ Z# M8 o9 ^/ P, zwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically+ [+ V( O7 W/ d6 {4 h9 [* f
diverse backgrounds$ _0 T# {: h* q* c) H' j8 \" E
9 Y1 ^0 N0 P+ L" ] k# z C+ a4 JAdministrative responsibilities:
- N) M+ N% y8 |0 l! [7 R* b6 k1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its* K& O, o& z$ x0 Z; B7 T
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of6 A& n* O* B5 R1 j. o0 t
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
# [; Q) a' A1 Q: r$ G, fmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition./ J5 F4 C( |$ V9 r1 }
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the+ R' }% g* `( l$ r$ W

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
7 e+ F. j3 x# u1 ]* Z9 {implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
% J) L3 g4 F. f/ K6 |* C; uoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.8 e. j9 r7 @6 a# M1 T
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and0 l% n0 }. D5 {2 ~1 A0 W- l6 u
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
6 I- T3 l9 k' `* t% p: W; z7 t/ H( fbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership6 ?/ s1 C4 O) v( [
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
( ` D) e+ J0 `0 t# rfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of6 I: C- U: Q. v& n& Z& m
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
2 M/ y0 o) V3 @; D( C/ fstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
4 J/ h4 }* m5 B+ ]6 Hmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
4 l* b; J$ E3 l9 I6 pdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
