- n( P& c% P! \! v0 Gthat we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet( j7 f5 Y0 F7 t q4 c1 @
service providers.

# Z9 p/ e, d& L5 lOur government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are
% q5 k# o# u: K, q4 ]% @0 W% Nan increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving
1 X/ y; j* v2 r* B0 n, R) a1 winnovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops$ E, h( k0 d4 L5 P
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
9 Q1 A- \) v) ^ E1 l ~+ _3 ]; ~/ _carefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be$ Q( Q. P4 Z" ]3 B7 E! P: w
guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and- z' \( l$ h+ W3 E
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
- c3 `' n% W- S5 vmarket forces to prevail. ( B7 I1 W1 X1 \3 ^3 q
8 E- q, X( f) U! c9 K* FThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has7 I2 j) a& s, a8 \- Y
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large

government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in! U3 W+ t9 ~$ V, }
line with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages
6 _. @3 m% S6 x; b8 Mcompetition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that
9 }. h% x6 o$ K6 V& ?0 q4 pany decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
