it all depand on what you want. a diamond ring can be broken down into the following 4 categories:

8 }% |/ j( {# B" p' c( N& hthe cutting of the diamond is also very important. a well cut 0.5 ct diamond may look as big or maybe even bigger on surface than a 1.0 ct diamond if it wasn't cut properly.

8 {; D: f5 }# ^the band (ring itself) can be found in white gold 14K or 18K. typically, the better the diamond, the better band it comes with. ie <$5000 ring usually comes with a 14K band but >$5000 ring will come with a 18K band.

if i remember correctly, last year, I saw a diamond ring at costco with 0.75 ct, E (colour), VVS2 (clarity), very well cut cost around $12K CAD. comes with a canadian certifiation. |
