Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall7 C' s# I0 [( g
not do any of the following:3 L, W+ ^) O) S# @( j
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor |% O9 p s! b, H
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
; z+ J( T/ W1 l; W(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor% D& D+ C6 d4 I
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle; n( K b9 a, n# ^: @
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
% G9 _4 z* I& e, x5 Ypermit another person
5 d; S8 w' d4 t/ w K8 }# r; |(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
2 D0 S' z% {" ~' [+ j+ M( e(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
0 p" N( G) ~+ Q2 W6 X6 ]unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;/ w& D! _& w, \! m" a$ G
(d) give or lend a financial
4 M/ n B0 Z2 a4 t; Y' {+ Lresponsibility card or a copy of it
6 _: ]( l6 |- Z- G% _to a person not entitled to have that financial
* H( ~9 A. B) R" d- K6 ~9 u q3 @responsibility card or copy.

* ]" d3 t2 Y$ UIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
- {- n: y; N4 y% F* M" swithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of% w: @9 G! K# Q$ P; f( h
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
% E9 a. e2 z, b: ~$ K5 g(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
1 d; x& {2 v& Unot an insured motor vehicle.

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this7 p, I. Z5 ]! Q9 Q. g
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this$ N) e" K) F t6 ^; Q/ Z, W

& \0 F0 k9 E2 n5 GSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a {1 `* y! o9 k( M6 q
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the" p4 w/ O w6 E, q' c

by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy: Q$ u ^" W3 N4 ]% @* w
outside Alberta.: Z+ Y- e- z4 _$ S) p
(4) b0 K5 Y( H, Y
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection7 z& P, z4 V1 s) m8 ^4 |
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,) G" \+ X2 F5 P1 g. {
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25008 z/ P* u+ G7 }) F5 K
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to# ~4 n j" k9 g- Y* |* ?
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not+ Z5 X7 n9 @) Y; _
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
