(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor

0 {' W0 h; l: Y(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor

(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,- @" C3 F3 y3 Z

(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
) N# `- l, C: C- |(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
9 J. @* }% v$ ^. K. Xunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;. a" N) W9 v' T* c/ d; S# S
(d) give or lend a financial1 r# N; ]2 O3 N8 K ]$ }
responsibility card or a copy of it
9 v- ?" E h: Y% ^7 W ^8 ]: Yto a person not entitled to have that financial; J+ X* v: m. k* @& _; G

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway5 f* Y' }; e2 v+ C
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of1 n9 |/ B( t- ~* Q
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection# L; `2 g2 M, J7 f
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is; v! P2 D; T3 v7 I5 V& W/ v
not an insured motor vehicle.# h& O' n1 {/ h1 n9 d5 z
(2)0 h' K$ f. C& {1 ]" Z$ M
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
% f6 m# Y+ `$ \Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this2 P! t1 K; u. e! c! ^
section.

8 Q2 N7 K# V/ B0 uSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a9 i; C& x' l% l- F$ Z. I
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
7 {) O' _2 g- \( {* A; U/ N1 g' JInsurance Act1 c9 D- @* b0 P: ]2 V
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy8 A3 d8 n0 Y9 Y' W' ^
outside Alberta.
7 ]7 a- n& `' D* X0 E, x. ~(4)
5 }: H' m, s+ V( Y% E% Y; z: nA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection- {0 w+ @# ~4 g
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
9 a H* Z# S7 c) j* ~5 _(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500* Q9 @* ~* y [2 b
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
: a/ _ A" a2 w6 E) Oimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not5 f$ J% R# D2 ]1 `/ K; P" D
more than 6 months
