9 j3 \3 u+ x# i6 h$ lEDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

]( T& P* x. e7 ?1 }/ A' H9 ]The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.! S! H x5 Z) C; w0 `4 c* C9 l! q
, g. z8 P- y! HPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.6 K' E% R8 _# E* z; a$ p

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
