Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:

• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.1 c8 O$ u7 J3 ?# n
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.

H) c/ E) u: m• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities./ c! `- W4 Y% Z! `3 h! b; ?
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works' R1 B! k8 H* T; ~
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. 2 H% g) b9 a1 _
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.9 e$ q6 z4 z/ O9 U
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
0 G2 f" u: Y$ R, V4 Y$ w; Y3 h• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.: c. ~1 w- z; \* j, Y& |" T/ v
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation

• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).2 \, y* m) C, R! _3 ], \
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.4 G, k: t7 e' I4 \2 O/ i
• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.0 D0 c" k+ w# P8 v) }6 [' k! L
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.

• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

8 z( Q7 g7 G& [" r1 a/ }3 d/ e• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
! b4 J3 k4 }1 U) v4 O• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
' h |: H7 c* k4 |+ a2 `8 P8 p& Z• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.3 m) j U, Q, r ~' _+ R
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions./ x3 {: ]1 C- v: X, D) s
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.

• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
( K8 y. s4 r/ UHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.0 K7 t& \: \9 R0 F4 O; e
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
