, ]0 I8 G) Y; {7 {: m) VJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
9 v& f7 G" P( u* tthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
9 |& M+ n7 {# p+ ^, N. T( fCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
) S7 E- v. n- jStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
: |& w- T" s0 uyear following their appointment.

# W! H8 t0 x$ x2 EDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
# X( Q4 H4 p7 k* [) l. {8 ^
; @  c+ B' t+ H: u2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
1 S1 J1 I+ |; m' h( @$ vadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

+ w4 h9 _6 E5 G4 F2 I8 g5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
referenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
parties.

9 ~1 X+ ]7 x: b, ]6 B' Q, z7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
- j% z$ P9 g5 k0 B7 treferendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
0 |, Q* C5 H9 S5 b: s7 n& YBylaw 2000.
) O, B. j/ g/ Y" N1 |  J" Z5 D
10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
, v3 S  D! y6 o: ~' T) p) s7 ^8 C0 vminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
( Y% ^8 y8 @( F  M: |$ ?from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
3 k8 p: a" _! Fof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
/ t# j$ H& Z$ B5 ~& c. T' H# wthe course of an election/referendum.

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
: L5 D5 q9 \, H0 G9 F6 Qprocess is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

6 S. b4 M- w9 k- g+ A14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
of campaigning.

, _# H( c) \& s3 J15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
Administration Committee.

& l/ s! M+ a2 C2 JQUALIFICATIONS:
, i) W, R* {: Q! b$ m! N* M7 d
1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
4 i+ ?( O" j3 T: F2 cfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
Union member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.

) ]6 U4 i7 N4 Y  `6 q6 M% z3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
: e( e9 r$ r7 P% Z3 B3 `any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
" t1 \/ \2 e5 h& b# Cwith the Students' Union.
& n' p8 e" D. g' y( j3 n3 K
4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

+ @4 r0 L5 h3 e' c. y5) Excellent project management skills are required.
4 L7 o5 n$ W% S" J* S
5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
, n, `9 J' ?/ F7 ^staff, students and the general public.
