CHIEF RETURNING OFFICER

Remuneration: $6,032.00 contract

+ g5 m, Z+ c4 wJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
2 N( _$ n1 r- u1 n8 Hthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
# \+ F1 {* R( H0 L% A* d2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
2 G2 f4 T2 h' u% L+ J8 I( ~Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  : I0 q. ]& Z! W$ f* R
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
: i0 w# V: u* H. F- \; Dyear following their appointment.' I; h  C% ?; ^1 R

0 Y6 n/ K- ]. P- F% }& nDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

! R+ {9 s+ \! [0 h6 s9 r8 g7 o1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000& C; v  s: n( G# k+ {
' Y# ~, {2 n, b# E) a0 b
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.% D8 Z5 ^8 t; Z
" i& D+ h. `" ~& J+ l5 P) Q8 ?
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

3 f, h7 r3 l2 L+ {4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  + {/ ^, h  h9 r; d
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  : w" c; ?0 B: A: i5 H
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

) c/ z/ r3 F; i5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ 1 R4 J$ Q( ^+ J" p& L
referenda.; X& E' x1 p# K$ b7 ~6 K4 Q

1 V/ x: y2 S- O4 F9 O% i6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  8 d1 o& Y* |, ^8 K' @2 Y) O+ B8 z
parties.

3 A1 n4 M* e+ L6 R7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ - m- S- |+ v$ r
referendum.

9 j9 \2 d  b4 h& f2 O% K2 }8 E: s To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  ' y) M# m* I/ Q% {9 G
Bylaw 2000.3 ^9 X5 i  H9 O# D+ w

6 Q/ B$ u4 `( W& v0 Z10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
6 \6 |6 A  H6 m/ L/ tminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  $ C; D# o( V1 Q
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
$ T4 F7 S- N$ s! nof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
3 ?0 c: g9 d. n3 I7 ], ]' G4 k0 _; p" K* e
11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during    I1 m' w8 Y3 k* m
the course of an election/referendum.

8 O( g# z, d' B7 @) V12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
9 U) |) H0 _, L. E$ X& w9 q3 hprocess is in place.

3 e2 `/ V" f; x13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
9 V" M6 L+ ?3 J8 E4 _6 K, |7 mof activities and recommendations.$ u! W! }0 v4 l- O9 _* S

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
% n$ v3 n( m! oof campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  6 z5 s3 j3 A* n) P' ]
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
! ~5 m4 p6 {% ~' }. T8 j( oUnion member.

2 \4 d' ]- u2 {$ S( E: N2) Must have some experience in student elections.; a7 P7 c* ^/ h* R0 [

; k' |! Y* v' V3 [* j8 C& o* I3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  ) T, {/ [; k- Q! ~, ]( a
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
& ^1 _3 m! A: f- [with the Students' Union.: O" T; {4 o4 @: t8 B- b: q% x

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
