# n7 F$ q/ x0 r. n9 x2 T* PJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
: C/ n7 C4 {- R& l; lthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
6 b. h; B) Y' ~8 X2 c8 V" |2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
# y, P( w8 s* j2 R0 d& g  pCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
  V1 `2 [# t6 _: `Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  , I& [/ P7 v2 Z. s- }9 y) A7 [& M
year following their appointment.

* D. f# Z! o4 m9 cDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

0 _- ~: ]" [, M) c3 L2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.' Q. p! H: @# t  g. l

$ p0 I5 ^; p9 r) n  ^3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.
; T. C1 ^% ^' w9 V( u+ H' ^* P$ S/ {5 g9 R! ?4 P# H. t
4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  % H2 y8 `4 I0 v9 k' a
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
9 j/ M( E# N! A; R2 `across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

! a2 I5 [. |5 k1 F( T$ M# F3 z5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
/ E, z1 Y  t1 t0 J% ~5 xreferenda.
/ d) E& P6 b1 v# ?9 D8 K" i$ i) i6 a0 r# J) B5 b# M
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
9 j% h$ f, g6 yparties.4 O5 U0 `. n8 [, A( d

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ 5 o, z4 Y) q8 u# b4 [4 c
referendum.

5 u+ }+ D3 j( K To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
; [1 ^* g, e0 s: E1 U) BBylaw 2000.7 R! f1 n5 h  a/ a% V

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  * }5 V, q; t2 Z/ N  b7 j; R2 Z0 p
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
* _. R0 z5 F7 Y* Q7 r/ G4 E* |4 kfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
0 m/ c$ V( C+ w" \; z+ m% ^of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  / ^' M8 f8 q2 E5 R! G4 l
the course of an election/referendum.  E( x( ]1 h( |: V5 h; K

, m7 C+ ^& T" s5 X5 U5 g12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  - @. O, A" \* P0 c( u- u
process is in place.. A( }6 s4 u4 ]3 }5 ?

0 n/ m4 _2 x7 F% T13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  3 L; K* u) L* o; [; w5 p# I
of activities and recommendations.

9 h6 s# B. v3 L14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  & Q' u/ ^& l. k" C7 \9 |" a  g. N
of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  : Q( E) ~- q/ \8 Z* ~+ ?

4 N/ n  S5 _0 V0 e; [/ q7 @0 D) SQUALIFICATIONS:/ R' }: F5 S! Z+ ^  D

% s" Y$ T3 B3 y  N9 Y2 q6 Q% {1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  . V* l4 M" B+ e6 n8 I5 W& i
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  8 P" r9 `& _% h. u
Union member.+ c" V- p2 U7 ~& [7 Z9 {# |9 ?

# }2 k/ i) V% f2) Must have some experience in student elections.

6 f$ a9 J  E2 ]: K* o3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  8 u. }7 ?: f0 ]5 E
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  ' g, Y9 s9 t3 x
with the Students' Union.0 R# [2 O6 \9 A, J

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.- G/ `, n, a5 x0 @- c! s

( D" y+ P- }3 D+ J3 S6 U5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
