Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

; y: C/ l. j: }FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
3 E' L, Q5 h& x: N5 ?•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
3 g& D' T. f$ R9 `, ^/ x( Band traffic conditions.
+ L$ l7 B: c0 l: K•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
$ g; n: h- b5 f- g3 T3 S4 g•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
  l- _6 b$ d, r•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
) X1 z) O* Y  t- O; M•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
0 w( ?2 ^- C* W: {7 D3 X•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
3 G, S4 Q! X& b. f' d- Lto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
9 h4 R7 p1 C( {$ ]' c/ i•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
) c: r, q1 v+ J5 W6 `•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
$ q3 t6 j8 B) G2 |; f) R•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

% b9 J: ^$ j2 h•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

/ l4 j% y! ?/ T+ nVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
) @9 Q' o# y- }8 l, h; EThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

2 U& G; m6 W: rTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
2 R2 f0 e5 U* XPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
; v7 F9 V" I/ eThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
