Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis., V) I: |' u/ `& Y% n+ j `

7 J5 d9 ~ `/ d. {+ ^• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.' T8 v5 G+ P T- u9 w v9 Z
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.( e) F8 ~8 Y/ V) ^5 E! s: }- o8 E
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information." q' e$ l' N7 s, s4 g" Y
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather , ?! t7 g$ n+ L" N0 j7 Z+ h

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
3 J2 V T& z8 z( D8 B1 ^8 F• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset. e+ x- l7 L/ [: R/ I9 X+ g
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 5 H/ @# S. a1 k0 q7 A' l/ W
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).9 b' p+ G$ K# W# h/ S. V. l% K
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
' s. `$ y5 [9 C/ C5 [• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training./ g2 s9 g/ v+ Y. U
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
2 W" E! ~6 R1 H' p* ?; xshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 5 \6 @. T, s8 L
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
, \ `4 G4 F ^. R* j6 l$ \- r% a/ @( Vvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).: V% u ~/ o% M e4 G. o% h* A
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week

Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
