: ]; a4 x4 T& c( ZEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
$ ]6 N  k3 T  ?( E$ \. }•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
- q, v2 R$ r" b. \•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
6 q1 ~; \. ]7 h0 V, J•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

: q4 A# e4 e( ^•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
5 Y" J  h3 `! m  t•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
0 a) ~$ H7 ^9 n4 J$ |! a& _to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
! }% Y/ J. y! w% I% S) g•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
) _4 X. j9 g" C  |•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
* R3 y3 F8 I( G4 u% G/ w* \1 }showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
8 I: J2 U5 b, U: ~3 T- n. R5 Y•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
1 ?0 {3 v2 L6 Y* O; t6 Zvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

! A: k! Z8 I; IVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
5 Q& l+ o' U: J1 d/ i7 q. pThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
+ e) V! R1 Q/ O. eTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
: P2 I3 O7 f) B3 |Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
) C6 y  t% I' B* q  O* F) H9 P* vThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
