Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.) O5 N- x4 c2 ~8 S( w( l
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.

• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 9 z# G' o. X. _! ?1 ? E6 A

JOB REQUIREMENTS:: K) j( C; _& K3 J
• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.; \, w, \7 P, h- k* k6 @0 s
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability - U* X" l2 Y! ]3 r2 W" x3 L; n, Z9 y, Z
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger / H2 { ]% b) J, ?7 Y

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
, l' @& p* E% P, G4 v: M$ v. J• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.6 Y. r5 h" k4 T+ L
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.3 D4 U8 {6 e# q
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
# y' x: o5 ] o, [3 {showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 2 H) ^, {8 i& S3 K1 {8 R8 \8 C3 F
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill ! k, C) u6 V* f. G I3 |/ e
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
