9 Q8 ?- [! ]) e8 H9 n# Z/ lDo you have a strong customer service background with well developed people-skills?  Do you enjoy driving and the challenges of dealing with the public in a diverse work environment?  If you answer yes, and you can meet the requirements below, we’re interested in you.
! V7 {: M6 I' rEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

# w9 c  j% X: C6 j1 _•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.: o# U/ m/ r" ]# M" J; ]( o- M8 @% R
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers./ c4 b/ P& s6 N% ~; ?( z
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
' A! H  V) U" ^& _•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
+ F  `' c' X. G9 g5 [and traffic conditions.
/ \( B% h' k, ^: M! `0 K" z•        Adhere to schedules.1 W# [1 U. @: b; F. r
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
- n( D' p( K0 H% n$ i' T•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.& P- ~9 F# m" g. n) H+ L
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.( b- X& q; Q7 C* n$ R! @$ }
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.  v$ {7 H9 ^7 }5 w
•        Provide excellent customer service.

* X% s: \* s1 O: l3 QJOB REQUIREMENTS:
- D1 y) G0 g* W( f$ w4 X•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
+ S# l: V( t2 Y  v•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
% w* G3 Z; C$ I1 k% Kto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 2 V1 r% Z, m" H  T- a
of the day.
) x& ]( P9 `1 a9 {- E•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
0 g2 K/ j! y1 g1 C6 ~) i•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.+ ~) Y5 J- s; c- U( y! [7 s, Y
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
9 U" [, y7 @1 k; J: \* z•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
) w, k* N1 {8 z3 b5 x( ^7 Rshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. . |5 C( B1 T, ?7 g+ K8 W% Y. i9 R
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
3 X8 Y$ g# M# a6 i, e4 Y" uvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.9 a* e' s# g0 @- M' k7 |

HOURS OF WORK:: [7 ]1 i3 R; D7 w' w
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
  t) R6 q) N) S+ }0 i$ [1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
' d' W% C5 ]- T# f7 Q9 _Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
9 k' u* E: _1 d- Y+ C: a& r. N2 g0 K0 l
SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
% X1 G+ S8 ~+ b% {) }- W1 CTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
& K% |: }% e5 ^+ E) ^Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
* I( ]0 H( U3 P' L  @The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
