Do you have a strong customer service background with well developed people-skills?  Do you enjoy driving and the challenges of dealing with the public in a diverse work environment?  If you answer yes, and you can meet the requirements below, we’re interested in you.
  p. R" }3 c! X! Z8 SEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.% u1 v8 `8 l& |/ w8 s  \; l

  b& a( l" X* [2 J* v) ^" e2 HFUNCTIONS:
; `( v9 p- [" W( U: D•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
" g) E1 T: e7 f0 e•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.3 p4 q1 ~: B- G  U
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
* J' _. X1 Y; [! L% f0 G•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 6 m( o' T4 l! E- @( {
and traffic conditions.

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Provide excellent customer service.

& P9 G5 {. ?& `, c. s; n- L•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
* ~8 ?% F6 ~& k& \* X' ?•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
! I1 j  T# C- c, [- a% Q1 Nto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 6 d- N' m8 {; X' T! J  Z" ~

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
8 H& l3 W0 U4 J; q& i. D. ]•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years." b$ b: K, i6 J* H. `/ S. R/ G
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
  m$ [* X" _' E# j•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) 5 I4 A! E/ v3 I( v  m- Q3 V
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. ; d4 \; j! ]  R" P# Z
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
- \, F. S% X- c+ Qvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training)." C/ d& U1 y0 m! H
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.1 x- |. \1 x/ l# A6 e
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
; T5 Q1 X3 c4 o5 z- N# c- `9 LVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week ( h. t, [% z' b: S; P( {
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly( p) k9 a1 ?& y5 \: @
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
( K$ t7 J. K6 H  }8 v, M0 Q+ m2 U. W( w$ `! _
SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 9 z# J6 g8 _6 J6 y* k( e
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly: D. D& z5 U, B1 k2 Q; D
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
