Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.! j) t% M4 A$ g. l5 E2 p2 D
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.- @4 p( v. f& T- W0 u k
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.3 O1 \, { d1 |5 m
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 3 Z3 M5 \$ g3 o, d; j% Q
and traffic conditions. $ l- q2 H: L, i
• Adhere to schedules.. N* i' d: N0 a7 m
• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. 3 e5 g0 M0 K9 E

• Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

$ b; f- o1 V3 V7 J• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.; G; g6 u+ A/ K, Z1 T
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
% C2 {# f) Z* f" e: ]( Q( Fto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger e9 @) \; J8 n; v

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
) O+ B _3 B U" n9 _4 `• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.4 n Z. e* y; ]9 `* v& k& J
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
3 I: c2 [" S8 K* ^: a7 y• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
; {. D I, M) x8 vshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 2 `4 M+ g5 E. }4 ^ u
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
" N2 Z% J" k* Xvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004
