  p. R" }3 c! X! Z8 SEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

  b& a( l" X* [2 J* v) ^" e2 HFUNCTIONS:
; `( v9 p- [" W( U: D•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
" g) E1 T: e7 f0 e•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
* J' _. X1 Y; [! L% f0 G•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
. Y# [5 n5 F9 F•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Provide excellent customer service.

, v1 o2 t- V0 ]1 ^JOB REQUIREMENTS:
& P9 G5 {. ?& `, c. s; n- L•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
* ~8 ?% F6 ~& k& \* X' ?•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
! I1 j  T# C- c, [- a% Q1 Nto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
8 H& l3 W0 U4 J; q& i. D. ]•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
  m$ [* X" _' E# j•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
- \, F. S% X- c+ Qvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
; T5 Q1 X3 c4 o5 z- N# c- `9 LVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
