Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
. O- q7 R) W1 ]8 u8 Y9 T•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

' V1 b5 N  X, W/ QJOB REQUIREMENTS:
% O& g8 Z; I2 Z•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
% Q6 ~% l3 y1 Z* `•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
8 D. m* Y' ?' n  J5 w  Oto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
0 v4 a0 z) v1 i0 `' e•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
. ~' f7 C: q2 }. P* ^, L7 wshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
* g( e: U1 I' u) P( |; H6 Y8 L9 |•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
7 P3 L" d, k; ^- z•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
& n1 M; r+ ?) l9 d" z. {4 ~•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

& h- ~0 k6 L  f$ p, o5 `# wHOURS OF WORK:
+ j" n* n4 c8 j6 ?Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
/ n7 |$ m, j, P( F, N3 B  S1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
