EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.# K; J+ Z: _- o+ k: \) N
; _* M# I6 M( Y! x! ^- XPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.8 C6 n" u* P6 n) a, K0 @( z

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
