I bought RESP from Heritage Foundation, and it was just matured last July. The membership fee is $4000 and will not be returned if you terminate before the mature date. There are three or four options to get it back (their website shows the details). Option 1: you can get all the principal and interest at the first year but you will not get back any membership fee; Option 2: you can get the principal at the first year and the interest (plus government portion) at the second year, as well as 25% of membership fee. If you choose to get the principal at the first year and the interest (plus government portion) at the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year (four years in total), you will get back 100% of your membership fee. I chose to get it in four years, and I’ve already received the principal last July. I will get the interest (plus government portion) and membership fee in the next three years, and each year I will receive 1/3. |
